Web Configurator is often not accessible

Laptop - a Lenovo Thinkpad T14s. Yes, I’ve tried to factory reset and also followed the guide about two dozen times so far with no luck. I cannot access the web configurator on the remote, and the remote sees the dock but just won’t complete the connection process. Very, very frustrating.

Have you checked the web configurator is enabled in the remote? I would focus on getting access to the web configurator before starting on the dock.

Yes, of course. I just can’t reach the remote by IP or the .local address. It always times out.

Have you tried a different browser?

My remote arrived today and the web configurator would not work with my default browser firefox. The main page would load in, but I couldn’t do anything. Once I switched to Chrome, I haven’t had any issues since then.

Yes, it was among the first things I thought of. I also disabled my VPN, and the Norton Firewall, then used Chrome… no good.

Understood. Tried multiple times, no luck.

Well, I just got a little closer. Turned off my firewall, VPN and used Chrome. No connection until I restarted the remote and I got the web configurator. But I’m still not able to connect to the dock. I’m either getting a Timeout or ‘Connection Refused’ error. What worries me is that the hard reset button doesn’t always work, and I often have to unplug the USB-C power cable and actually have to flip it upside-down to get the dock powered up again. When it does, often I get the yellow flashing light, followed by the fast blinking white light.

One step closer isn’t there, but it’s better than where I was…

How is your network built? What IP’s do the remote, docks and your PC have? Are all devices in same internal network or do you have public IP’s on them?

I’m not a networking guy, but I’ll try to answer.

The router is an ASUS AC5300 in a stock (quick setup) configuration with a switch connected to add extra ethernet ports for devices like my Marantz AVR and so on. I didn’t do anything fancy with the router setup.

So far I disabled the 5G bands to avoid conflicts, per the recommendations made here on the forum. I can see the IP of the remote (192.168.1.158), but as of this morning, I again can’t connect. There is no success trying with the ‘.local’ address. I also have not been able to connect to the dock, yet a couple days ago I was able to. I have powered down the dock and will try again in a couple hours to see if that helps.

Do I just have a lousy router? Should I buy a new one? Should I try assigning a static IP to the remote and then try to configue the dock?

So most likely your PC is in the same subnet ie. 192.168.1.0/24. If you have your remote powered, in the dock and still cannot connect with IP-address I would suggest factory reset of the remote and restart setup, assuming you can access everything else in your network.

Tried a factory reset again - I think this is reset number 23. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I can see the remote in the IP table, but can’t connect via either Firefox or Chrome even after disabling my VPN and firewall. I’ve seen that FW 1.5.2 has some issues… is it possible to roll back to an earlier version just to get this configured, and then update again?

The sporadic issues you’re having might be network related. There is comments in the community manual about how the remote doesn’t play nicely with some router features.

It might be worthwhile creating a separate basic 2.4G network (with password) just for the remote to see if this makes it stable. Leave everything else on the normal 5G one and just test the remote in the new network. Connect the remote and your laptop to the new network with nothing else. Once connected give the remote a fixed IP address, then try adding the dock from the remote using Bluetooth. If the dock connects give that a fixed IP address as well. If you can reliably access the remote/dock on this network then its a router setting thats causing all the grief. It’s a tedious process, but it might start getting you somewhere.

I’m not sure if there is a roll back feature, but all the firmware is buggy. I would suggest you stick with the newest firmware just as I reckon it will likely get more support.

Can you recommend a router that is known to be compatable with the R2?

Probably best to try a separate test 2.4G network before spending the money on a different router. If that doesn’t work, there is no guarantee a different router will fix it. I’m unsure what the response is like, but it might be worthwhile emailing the official unfolded circle support to see if they can help in case they think its a hardware issue.

I’ve aleady tried turning off my 5G radios leaving only the 2.4 band functioning. Not sure how to test a ‘separate’ 2.4 network without a separate router. Yes, I’ve already sent a support request but so far only one reply telling me to enable mDNS to which I responded with my router brand/model. No resolution as yet.

PAYDIRT! I finally got connected with the remote this morning after reloading the page and changing the PIN number to the configurator a few times. It’s almost as though something got ‘stuck’ either in the remote, in my laptop or on the network.

I immediately assigned manual IP’s for the Remote and Dock, then connected manually to the dock and updated the firmware. It’s been painful, but now on to the ‘fun’ of configuring all this stuff. So far, I used the Denon (Marantz) integration and I’m working on connecting to my HomeAssistant install (MQTT/Mosquitto) but that’s another thread.

Thanks to everyone here for your patience and assistance. Let’s hope the road is less bumpy!

I cannot connect the dock using the remote and cannot get into web configurator to try from there.

Here’s what I’ve tried to get the configurator to work:
• Web configurator is enabled on the remote.
• I’ve tried using the server name http://RemoteTwo-d017696b7c27.local/configurator. I get “Site can’t be reached. Server’s IP address could not be found”.
• I’ve tried using the IP address shown on the remote. I get the “Error 404” not found page with the text nginx/1.18.0.
• I’m using 2.4g wifi
• I’ve disabled firewall and anitvirus on my pc.
• I’ve tried using Chrome, Edge, Brave browsers.
• I can log into my router and see the remote and it’s IP address. I see the dock’s IP address too, if it really is the exp32… device).
• I tried to ping the remote from the command line of windows, and it times out.
• I tried to ping the dock and it returns saying “Destination host unreachable” and times out.
• I can successfully ping my samsung tablet, my firetv stick and other clients listed in my router.
• I’ve tried resetting the dock, resetting the remote many times.
• I’ve tried all of the above over multiple days.

I can’t believe this is so difficult. Does the company ever reply to these posts or try to help people out? I’ve emailed them, but no response yet.

Thank you

I know it’s very frustrating. You can see the troubles I’ve had myself. It’d be great if someone could recommend a wDNS-friendly router, but in the meantime:

Try rebooting the remote.
Try rebooting your PC
Disable any 5G bands
Try rebooting your router
Put the remote in the dock (helps prevent timeouts)
Assign a Static IP for the remote and dock!
Wait a few hours (or even overnight) and try again. I found that it often takes a while for everything to work it’s way through the system, as though there’s a ‘road block’ in the way somewhere.

It’s been noted frequently that as a startup company, the software is not yet evolved. Like you, I expected that integrations and new functions would be forthcoming, but I also expected a more mature process, at the least for setup.

Don’t give up the ship! :upside_down_face:

W.r.t. assigning a fixed IP: a) that is indeed preferred and b) make sure to reboot the Remote 2 after assigning the fixed IP.
Otherwise it will stay on the IP that it initially was assigned.

How to reboot the remote and dock?
