Hey everyone! Just wanted to share some exciting news—our friends at UC sent me an email today letting me know that my Remote 3 has officially shipped! I even got a UPS tracking number, and it’s expected to arrive on April 28th.
As the UC team mentioned, this is just the first batch, but they’re working hard to get everything out. It’ll take some time to process all the orders, and there might be a few delays along the way, but the ball is officially rolling!
Hope this update helps, and fingers crossed for smooth deliveries all around!
@adolfus I have no inside information to know when the product will be Generally Available (GA) to the public.
let’s talk about UC’s business model. It’s all about hardware, and I expect they made some extra units. But keep in mind, they’re shelling out the cash upfront for these units. Even with a 50% margin, the team has to cover their expenses.
Some sharp-eyed community members noticed the website used to have a pre-order button, but it’s gone now. We saw the Remote 2 get over-committed and there are still folks waiting for their units. Looks like UC doesn’t want to repeat that mistake.
I really doubt there will be any GA units available (maybe a few if production quality is better than expected). If you haven’t gotten an order confirmation yet (kickstarter or the Website), your best bet is probably the re-sale market. Otherwise, you’ll have to hang tight for the next production run, which is likely Remote 4.
Again, I have no inside information, this is just my speculation, based on deductive reasoning given what I see and past experience.
@jkingaround, Et al - As an early backer of R2 and R3, I secured a low shipping number.
The team will be conducting test shipments globally to various regions over the coming weeks before increasing production. It’s important to keep in mind that backer or shipping numbers may not be indicative of when you’ll receive your unit, as the team is working hard to ensure everything goes smoothly. They aim to assemble, test, pack, and ship globally over 5067 units within approximately two months, which implies 126 units per day, which is a significant undertaking for such a small team managing design, compliance, support, and shipping among other tasks.
Kickstarter projects always require a bit of patience and understanding. We have a fantastic product on our hands, with the potential to fill a unique global market niche. Let’s continue to support the team as they work diligently to provide the best possible experience for all of us.
I get it, trust me. I’ve been on the waitlist since 2022.
But I don’t understand why you won’t just give the shipping / backer number?
Personally, I’m shipping number 404 (shipping not found lol. but also pretty low lol) so I’m just trying to get a rough idea of where they’re at and I think it would be helpful for others even though we know it’s not necessarily indicitive of when it’ll ship for everyone.
I think most people understand patience but now they are actually shipping it’d be nice to know is all.
Are you trying to imply that their whole business is just making new hardware once they’ve fulfilled the kickstarter pledges ?
That’s absurd. The whole idea is they get this out there and some funding to become a normal company. If their business model is to release a new remote every year they won’t be lasting long at all.
I guess we’ll see once they get the pledges shipped.
I’m sorry but how you’ve worded your replies on here to me seems like you’re a company insider….
The company has been worryingly quiet for a good while now and I think it’s time we had an update ….
I think it’s important to consider that many successful companies use hardware-based business models effectively, and one great example is Apple. Their strategy of releasing new hardware regularly (iPhones annually)—alongside software innovations (iOS updates often)—Warranty Support Model (Apple Care) has turned them into a global powerhouse. What makes it work isn’t just the product cycles that generate revenue and profit margins (to pay people and purchase components parts and services) but also their ability to maintain trust through transparency and consistent communication.
For this Kickstarter campaign, transparency is key. Backers like us have invested not just money but also trust, and regular updates would go a long way in reinforcing that. If their vision is to grow into a sustainable (normal) business, they’ll need to show their capability to deliver on promises, communicate effectively, and earn customer loyalty beyond these initial launches (R1, R2, R3). Recent silence from the company understandably raises concerns, and I think we’re all eager for a meaningful update soon. But it does not mean a ‘conspiracy’ or necessarily bad news.
Oh, and as for me being a ‘company insider’—I have to say, that’s quite the leap. If calling for patience in the community, discussing business strategies, trying to explain the pre-production global launch process and seeing both sides of the coin makes someone an insider, then I suppose next I’ll be accused of being Tim Cook’s understudy. Let’s keep this discussion grounded in reality (without conspiracy theories) and focused on what we all want: a successful sustainable product (20+ years like Logitech Harmony Remote and clear communication from the company.
I’ll don’t know whatever all that was about Apple, . The way you’ve worded that is just what I’d expect from a company employee who’s trying to make it look like there’s some progress when there’s not.
Whether we get the product isn’t the question. I was an early backer of the R2 I remember preordering as soon as possible the day it launched on kickstarter and the ups and downs of it. I know R3 is coming.
End of the day we all want are some updates . We are not getting them. As you rightly say a lot of us have invested our money and it isn’t too much to ask that we get a brief update from someone. But silence ….
What’s your backer number ? Gives us an idea where they’re at on the shipping scale.
Because I have been waiting for almost 3 years, since backing R2 that never happened…
3 years…really ,and what wrong with requesting regular weekly updates…an email takes 30 seconds to type…
