Started work on an 'Onkyo AVR / Pioneer AVR / Integra AVR' custom integration

Thanks @Eddy ! Can’t wait to try it tonight. Quick question…when I downloaded it downloaded as a .tar file (not a zip). If I double click on it, it creates a folder. Should I just add .gz to the original .tar file and upload that? Thanks!

Hi @PNWUC , could you try downloading it with a different browser? Adding it back to itself will not work

If downloading it with different browser does also not deliver a .tar.gz within a zip I have to work on it some more but that I can only do in about 24hrs from now…

Downloaded with both Chrome and Safari gave the same result (on my Mac). Totally OK waiting as long as you need. I’m just super excited you’ve done this work…it’s amazing! Thanks!

Hi, okay will come back to you later. First: breakfast, work, vote (election day here in NL), dinner and then I have a bit of time to continue.

talk to you later!

Try not simply clicking on the download link. Use right mouse button and select download. This sometimes helps. If you open the file to edit and you see readable text then download failed because the gz-part was automatically expanded and you have only a tar-file which is mainly plain text and readable.

I heard several user with Chrome and Safari but upto now none from Firefox.

This is actually true! Clicking the download icon gave me the aforementioned .tar file. If I right click and select download, I get a .zip file. Interesting.

BUT I’m now having a different issue. When I double-click on that file the tar.gz file shows up for a split second and then disappears and a folder appears without any file extension. I’m getting closer to a tar.gz file, but not there yet!

Sorry for all the stupid feedback. This remote has introduced me to github and I’m learning all this for the first time!

It’s the browser playing games.

Did you try it using Firefox like Ralf suggested?

Yes. And using his right click trick and/or using Firefox gets me a .zip file. But then when I double click on it, a tar.gz file shows up for a split second only to disappear and be left with a folder.

EDIT: I downloaded a 3rd party application which successfully extracted the tar.gz from the zip. I’ll try the integration in a bit!

Annoying behavior :man_shrugging:

I will try to release it tonight so you can hopefully ‘just’ download it.

Oh I read now that you got it. Great! Would be good to use it for a couple of days to see it does the job or not. Im also using it.

Unfortunately, same behavior on this new version. I installed it, it worked fine, state was “standby” or “on” and able to be toggled, tested all activities, rebooted the remote, then I got errors and an “unknown” state. Only recovery is to reinstall. Sorry!

Coukd you again send me the logs?

And, does it help if you reboot twice?

Unfortunately, rebooting multiple times does not fix it.

Logs below…hopefully these are what you need. I hit character limits so I’ll separate it into 2 posts. Post 1 is the reinstall of the integration. Post 2 is the successful operation of the Onkyo and the reboot of the remote and failure of the Onkyo.

At 49sec I successfully reinstalled the integration (log below)

Thanks!
Could you try 0.6.3 (when you have time and energy for it  ) I have not released it but you can find it here.
After installation and setup, see if it works, then reboot the remote, wait a few seconds until the little ball in top of the screen of the remote (next to battery logo) is not moving left/right anymore and then start an activity.

If this also does not solve it, it will take more time to figure it out because this is the only thing I could still think of at this moment.

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

Time and energy…testing is easy! I thank YOU for your time and energy to get this up and running!

Bad news. Same behavior. Installed 0.6.3. Worked fine. Rebooted remote. Waited until ball stopped moving. Error trying the same activity. Here the log of the failed attempt:

Also, probably won’t help any, but the screen is different before and after reboot. As you can see below, before reboot the entire entity name is shown under Step 1/1. After the reboot the entity name is gone. That may be nothing, but thought I’d provide the additional data point.

Thanks for that info! I have reinstalled, power down/up, rebooted my remote many times but cannot replicate the issue.

The screenshots tell me I have to look into a different direction. Will chew on it some more and come back to you later this week.

Thank you so much for your efforts @Eddy ! Good news is that as long as I don’t reboot the remote, it works great!

Hopefully something becomes obvious as you try and troubleshoot…I love not having to rely on IR! What a weird bug!

Thank you for trying and reporting @PNWUC !

It’s indeed weird, and interesting

But we will get it fixed one way or the other.

One question: could you install 0.6.0 again and see if the issue now also is there while running 0.6.0?

Because I cannot reproduce the issue and nobody else reported it, I think something went wrong on the remote during uninstall of 0.6.0 or install of 0.6.1 that causes this. Could you try 0.6.0 and see if that now also does not survive a reboot? No need for new logs, just would like to know what would happen.
