Remote 3 battery life

Plan on having a lazy day just watching TV and streaming? Well your $400+ remote is gonna take a shit before the days ends. If you haven’t got your remote yet & can cancel, go ahead and do it. This farce ain’t the one.

The battery is truly unworthy of its claim and doesn’t even last a full day of TV. I’m hoping for future firmware updates because I find it hard to believe that the battery life was so underestimated from the outset. I hope this isn’t just a hope. Currently, I’ve bought a wireless charging power bank and place the remote on it while I watch TV.

UGREEN Nexode Wireless Powerbank… UGREEN Nexode Wireless Powerbank 10000 mAh Magnetic Power Bank with USB-C 20 W, Wireless External Power Bank MagSafe Compatible with iPhone 17 Pro Max/17 Pro/16/15 Pro Max/Pro/14/13/12 (Black) : Amazon.de: Electronics & Photo

The remote is otherwise very well thought out, and it would be a shame not to give it a chance. There are currently a few problems, but they are being worked on. Lacking an alternative, there are no other options.

On software 2.7.0 with “Prevent sleep” in Activities disabled and “Keep WiFi connected in standby” in Power Saving enabled, the battery lasts around 2 days.

Is 2.7.0 in beta? I’m on 2.6.12 and it says it’s the most current.

Yes its beta but most folks have been using it for a while now and as long as you’re using a Remote 3 - which from the post title I see you are - you should be fine on this version of the firmware. It bricked a bunch of remote 2s.

I am on 2.7.0 beta and the battery life is definitely much better when keeping wifi on during sleep. However I do have lots of instances where I have to reboot the remote on this beta firmware because it freezes, which it didn’t on the previous firmware.

How can I get the beta?

in web configurator, settings > general > software update > enable beta updates

the battery life is truly not fit for purpose

Only upgrade to the beta 2.7.0 if you have an R3 though as it bricks the R2.

I must be lucky as since the dock and remote updates, my R3 lasts a day without an issue.

Yep- I have an R 3

What are your settings?

The larger issue is what happens in 1-2 years when the battery needs replacement? I’m nearly certain that its not replaceable and we’ll all have $400 bricks.

Don’t worry. There will be a new slew of suckers lined up for the Remote 5 by then.

I already asked about this and Marton said that they (UC) would be able to replace the battery in the R3. The question of course will be cost …….

I have “Keep WiFi connected in standby” enabled in the Power saving settings.

I don’t have “Prevent sleep” turned on in any activities.

The biggest thing was making sure none of the integrations were playing up by monitoring them in the Web UI and troubleshooting them since I was having issues others weren’t (one of the Chromecast beta features of the Android TV integration was causing constant disconnect/reconnects).

Other than that, I haven’t done anything crazy and I can use it throughout a whole day of watching YouTube, etc without issue.

Edit: This is on the latest beta firmware for both Remote and Dock.

I’m using the same setting: Keep WiFi connected in standby & Prevent sleep turned off and yet my battery is draining fast. 15%-20% every hour

I’m using an appleTV & Denon AVR integration in my activity.

I also notice that the remote screen turns on every 5min which doesn’t help.

Are these integrations known to consume a lot of energy ? Because when I switch off the activity that uses them, battery drains stops.

Check if either integration is constantly disconnecting/reconnecting in the WebUI. I had this with the Android TV integration as I said above.

I recognized the same.

I had my “Waketime” on 30 minutes and the remote wakes up every 40minutes by herself.
