Getting angry meanwhile

Meanwhile its really annoying to use this Remote 3….

WLAN Wakeup Issues are the most critical thing. Why?

It takes some seconds to reconnect - crazy if you fast want to pause a video.

Sometimes the Remote seems to reconnect correct, but complains about a failing dock connection, which is in reality connected (i can reach my docks while the remote cant connect) and they are stable connected to the wifi, so i assume its another issue after the reconnect/wakeup.
They are connected with IP (ws://192.168.0.162/ws), all via 2,4Ghz, Channel 10.

Now i switched my Shield Pro to Blutooth and my TV is controlled via Remote IR, to work around the Wifi Issue(s).

But what i have there now?
The Bluetooth connection gets stuck randomly or repeats actions 20 times after 1 Button Press - again: after the Remote was woken up from standby.

So wtf, meanwhile it annoyed me and my household that heavy, so we use the Harmony again regulary.

And no, i will not turn off the sleep for the Actions, because the remote discharges much to fast, so i have a empty battery soon, instead of a disconnected wifi…

In a normal Case, if i would have buy´ed that thing in a store - i would bring that back and would force for a refund.

If that fundamental Issues are not solved soon, mine will be put to electronic trash.

Wasted 318€ for that Remote and the additional dock….

If you don’t want to use prevent sleep wait for the Keep Wifi connected setting in one of the next updates. This will reduce the time for the remote to reconnect. UC waits for a new firmware from the WiFi chip vendor that fixes issues with this function. That’s why it’s currently only available on the R2. Last leek they say they probably get it this week from the vendor.

I use “prevent sleep” already for >20 month on R2 and R3 and never had an empty battery. Worst was around 20% at 11pm. If not used the remote is in the dock or wireless charger. You must use the remote without a break for around 10 hours before you run out of battery.

My preferences are:

  1. IP integration
  2. BlueTooth integration
  3. CEC
  4. IR integration

I would test it. If you get used to use a charger if not used you will start to love it.

What you can also try is to reduce the brightness and the time the display stays on. The display usually drains the most power.

With prevent sleep, 30sec display and brightness at 40% R3 lasts at most 7 hours until battery is fully drained. Tested with 2 R3s.

Keep in mind that this is still in a Beta face.

To expect that all is working at day 0 is not realistic.

I could not be agree anymore. The R3 is a good looking but it fails for the basics: control main devices flawlessly watever the protocol.
IR is ok no issue at all but BT & Wifi are too unstable to make the remote praticable so it useless.

I hope upcoming firmware releases which solve the issue in short time, otherwise go for sell.

I cannot agree. For more than 8 months my R2 and 2 month R3 it is stable with 23 IP and 3 Bluetooth devices. I do not think that IP or integrations are the problem more the network. My Network and connection between remotes and docks is also stable.

BT is not a local network related issue. R3 struggles with my Amazon FireTV stick 4K max remote. Either i am alone with this issue, so i have to find the cause with my config or it’s global with the Amazon device.

I made several tests in the last 2 weeks with my Fire TV 4K max gen2. And could not complain. The problem with Bluetooth is that it is connected when you send a command and disconnected after that. Every time you often get a message on the TV. This can be changed with “prevent sleep” and changing the behavior of Bluetooth but sadly this can only be done with the rest API.

Here is the link for Bluetooth settings

I can understand that you are disappointed. For me it was the same in the beginning, because I expected a more mature and reliable device. But once I accepted that there is more that is under construction I started to arrange with the situation. At the moment, we use both remotes, the R3 and the Harmony Elite. What keeps me positive is, that the current problems are well known and the developers try to solve this. So the R3 will become better and better with the time. I’m looking forward to this.

Hello Ralp,

  • what is your BT profile for Amazon Stick (Generic Android, Default, …)?
  • idem for BT config mode (Do nothing best effort, Disconnect at wakeup, …)?

Thanks

I have profile default. I do not know my BT config anymore. It seems that I also cannot retrieve it through the API. The explanation in the text should help to choose the best config.

My R3 gets out of sync with the integrations after wake up. The workaround that works for me is to wait 10-15 sec after the red line in the wifi-wave icon disappears. Then I can press buttons without issues.

Try prevent sleep then you don’t have to wait.

My spouse often forgets to puts the remote on the dock at night. Next day the battery will be empty.

You must train him a lot better

Her, and blond

Where can I find “prevent sleep”?

In settings of activities.
