I’m also pretty frustrated with the R3. I have everything connected with an integration and most of the time something fails (“internal server error”, “network error”, “wrong network key”etc
I’m with you . .I went back to my old remote as this simply works. I was on the stage that I didn’t care about Actions (on which I spent ages to set) I have restored my whole setup via ARC / CEC ..all was so annoying .. Remote did not wake up correctly every time which cause issues on channel change / other options. switching to apps while watching TV was causing another set of issues. it is a beautiful piece of hardware . .but software wise - is not ready .. i’m going to wait and see .. a lot of stuff is based on Community integrations .. yeah I get it but software and integration (at least for major brands) needs to be done and covered by creators ..
Dont throw it. I will take it ![]()
I 2nd that, anyone who doesn’t want their remote 3 I’ll happily take it off your hands. I admit it was a steep learning curve but now it’s working flawlessly for me. As for CEC it has caused many people headaches due to it’s unreliable and inconsistent nature.
How is the dock connected; I’m using ethernet and providing power to the dock via PoE. If it’s connected via wifi, have you tried connecting the dock via ethernet? Simply asking as I actually removed my Harmony remote from the room as the Remote 3 has been very stable for me.
I have to agree. I’ve been trying to use this remote for a few days now. The constant errors, the IR sucks, the lack of integrations… I’ve gone back to my Harmony. I hope things get better in the future, but at this point, I just can’t use this remote.
Intitially I too was tearing my hair out, but, once over the steep learning curve I think the Remote-3 works extremely well. I would add that the inbuilt IR isn’t weak, it will operate all my devices at a distance of over 7 metres, however, being a small window it does have to be precisely pointed at each devices IR receiver, which makes it unreliable for activities controlling multiple devices. You absolutely need to have the Dock-3 and also use the included IR blaster then the whole thing works a treat. As far as Harmony goes IMHO the software leaves myHarmony in the dust.
Just to add I have my Dock-3 powered via usb and connected via WiFi no issues.
You’re better of activating prevent sleep for your activities. With this the remote never enters sleep mode while the activity is running.
This is terrible advice. No offense. I just don’t get why people keep recommending to keep an activity awake. It kills the battery, fast! And since the new reconnect logic implemented in a beta FW release about a year ago or so….this is pointless. Am I lucky or do people just have horrible LAN setups? My remote wakes in like 2 sec tops. I’m fine with this. And again, this is after 15 min timeout. I honestly don’t have these issues really. Use Ethernet on your dock!! If you can. It’s better than Wi-Fi. Use a static IP. I’ve had this setup for ages and no issues. I never keep an activity awake. No need.
Also, IR works fantastic!!! Perfect. But I’m using an IR repeater configuration. Yes, it would probably suck if I used what unfolded ships with.
Different people experience things in different ways. I am very happy with the ‘prevent sleep’ option because I don’t want to wait 1 or 2 secs before a button works. So with that option enable everything works instantly (all IP control btw). The downside is indeed that battery drains 12-14% per hour. But I prefer to need to charge the remote more often, really dont like to wait before I want to adjust volume or pause a move for example.
In short: for me it is a good advise to enable prevent sleep.
I agree. Me too.
I was responding to @Mitymas that extended the sleep timeout to a longer value than possible with a trick in the web configurator. That’s why I wrote it’s better to use prevent sleep because it’s doing the same to keep the remote awake but is limited to a running activity. But the post now seems to be deleted by the author so the context is missing. Also Discourse is often missing the reply info when responding to a post.
Understood. And this is why the option exists in the first place. ![]()
Purchase a spare/backup battery though, because charging so much will break it down fairly fast. Maybe not. I just hate rechargeable proprietary batteries. I wish this remote could take two AA’s, which I could then use my own rechargables. Meh. To each their own my friend.
Maybe in R4 ![]()
