Codes for Arris VIP5242W set-box? Movistar UDH

Manufacturer: Arris
Model: VIP5242W

Any idea how to get the codes for Arris VIP5242W set box (Movistar UDH in Spain)… They can’t be learned

Thanks in advance

The GlobalCache database includes a code set for the Arris VIP5662W. Maybe they work for your model as well:

If these do not work, the other option is to learn them from a Harmony remote which seems to support your model.

Thanks I will try it

what’s the easy way to use this CSV file?

How can get the codes from Harmony remote?

From Harmony you can only learn if it is possible. No chance to get the Hex- or Pronto-Codes from a Harmony.

For the csv file, create a new IR entity and select blank during setup. Then import the csv file and you should see all the commands in the web configurator.

When testing the commands, make sure you select the correct output device.

Great!!! just import the csv file… I thought I had to convert it before

I will test if the comands work as soon as posible

Thanks a lot

Sounds good. Do the commands work?

I will test it, but there are some other codes avaliable to test (I hope at least one works  )

Finally it doesn’t work… I will try another one

I hope you can find a matching IR codes set. The Harmony remote seems to support your receiver but trying to learn the codes using the Harmony remote resulted in an “UNKNOWN” error on the dock.

Does the receiver run on an operating system like Android TV. If yes, there is maybe an existing integration that you can use instead of IR.

It’s not an Android device or similar, so no integration is posible.

I will try with the rest models (I am not a verified user and I only can try one code - power of each one). Let’s cross the fingers😉

If I can’t find the code, I’m going to hace to sell it for sure, because without this device it doesn’t make sense to me, and it’s a shame because I like it a lot

Are you really sure? Don’t confuse it with Android TV. I did some research and found a VIP5242A model that seems to be Android based. The W-model might also be Android based.
Try the ADB integration that should also work with normal Android devices (GitHub - henrikwidlund/unfoldedcircle-adbtv: Control your TV and other devices via ADB on the Unfolded Circle remotes). Unfortunately it’s very slow due to the protocol and ADB might be disabled by default. ChatGPT had some links to a Spanish forum with a secret code to open an admin menu (PIN Deco movistar IPTV Smart wifi | Page 2 | Capa9). Maybe it’s possible to enable ADB from there.

No one of this codes works… nothing seems to work  Always UNKNOWN

No one works… I think the problem is that “Movistar” set their own IR codes, because the use the same remote for Arris and Humax hardware. I don’t know how to continue, because the only “solution” will be learn the original remote (that doesn’t work) or got it from hamony (I don’t know if is it posible). I found this but this “codes” are not compatibles Movistar Plus HD Set Top Box (Arris) IR Codes with Broadlink R3 Mini - Share your Projects! - Home Assistant Community

Because I can’t find a solution, unfortunately I have to sell or return it

I read here (somewhere) that some remotes can’t be learnt from, like you’re experiencing with Harmony. I think some advice was to get a cheap learning remote and learn the commands into that and then use that remote to learn the R3. I could be wrong but search for stuff like that in this community.

Thanks for the idea, but I also try this … both the original remote and Harmony remote give the same result.. no code is read

Your last option could be a Broadlink RM4 to replace the dock as an ir emitter. It’s as powerfully as the Harmony blaster and can be integrated using this integration GitHub - JackJPowell/uc-intg-broadlink: Unfolded Circle Integration for Broadlink Devices. It even supports RF.

Thank you for the idea, I had also thought about it as well as using Home Assistant with Harmony, but my idea was to use this remote control alone without other devices

I try with an One for all remote (5€)… using the Arris code that works fine, but no way to learn its IR. I can’t understand why it’s not posible to read this codes, when very simple devices like FLIRC can do it :man_shrugging:

Just to be sure: Did you receive any error like unknown from the dock while learning the code? You just wrote they can’t be learned. Unknown means the ir protocol is not supported. There are many protocols for ir and some of them are not supproted by the library used by the dock. There are plans to implement a raw learning function which should solve issues like this.

Sorry … yes the Message is UNkNOW.

This plans sound good, but too late for me.

It’s a shame because I really like the potential it has, but without this controller it is not useful for me, and keep it in your box until this hypothetical functionality comes out doesn’t make much sense

I don’t know if there is the possibility of using another device to record these commands and obtain the code
