Xfinity Users Heads Up

If you are a user of the Xfinity X1 cable boxes, be aware they use both IR and RF codes. However, the boxes can be setup for IR only by unpairing the Xfinity remote control from the box in the following way.

  1. If your Xfinity remote control has a setup button long press it until the green LED is steady on and enter the code 987. Now your set top box is IR only.

  2. If your Xfinity remote does not have a setup button hold the “A” and “D” button simultaneously until the green LED is steady on and enter code 981, again converting your box into IR only.

This was driving me crazy because some IR codes would work and some would not because a few controls are only IR but if the remote is paired some now RF only.

I hope this helps.

That’s not correct. The box is both IR and RF. The remote, once paired to the box, is RF only. The 987 trick changes the remote, not the box, to IR.

There are no codes that I haven’t been able to get to trigger IR with the Xfinity remote properly RF paired.

Hi,

I have the Xfinity set top box XGV2-P from Pace. What I experienced is that it would not respond to IR signals from the remote 3. I had downloaded the pronto codes from the global cache database. However, once I unpaired my remote using the 981 code it started working.
