I have four potential units for serial DB9 control (dCS Vivaldi as I have given up on IR) so a UC dock is not going to do the trick. So I was looking at alternative hardware. Global Cache is an option but, again, I need four ports so lately I have considered Moxa.
Does anyone know, before I spend the money, if UC can work directly with Moxa hardware? I know Moxa controllers are supported in HA but I was wondering if UC can “see” the RS232 ports on a Moxa directly. As far as I remember the serial interface of a GC100 is not usable in UC - please correct me if I’m wrong.
I need to use two ports for blasters because, as we have all learnt, the docks themselves have rubbish IR performance. That leaves me with two available ports for serial. I have three dCS Vivaldi components plus my projector screen, which I would like to move on serial as well.
I can buy extra docks but, frankly, I am not willing to spend more money on UC hardware, especially as I anticipate a UC4 is around the corner (two years between UC generations so far? I think that’s about right).
Moxa on the other hand is pro hardware, it is reliable, it has been around forever and is supported in HA. Regardless of what UC might or might not do in the future, there is a Moxa for all your serial needs - 1 - 16 ports, galvanic isolation for AV etc. I would much rather spend my money on one than on another dock.
