Things are beginning to feel settled with the RC3

The battery still needs work (sounds like they’re working on it) and there are a share of quirks, but I’m finally starting to feel as though I can move from the Harmony to the RC3. Much of what I was struggling with was fixed on my end – i.e. devices being turned off unintentionally when switching between activities (which required me to add their Entity to the Activity Group even if I wasn’t using that specific entity in the turn-on or turn-off sequences) and some other minor programming that needed to be ironed out.

I don’t know if the rest of the family will welcome the lack of dedicated buttons for certain common actions but I’m doing what I can to make it easier w/ my programming choices. And it’s getting better.

Bravo to Unfolded for pushing it this far. There’s a lot of potential here, and room to grow, so let’s keep pushing.

Such a nice post. Nice dude!

I’ve spent a lot of time on tech forums and I recognize that a strong majority of posts are about problems (rightfully so – it’s a good use of a forum) but I wanted to toss some credit where it’s due.

That said, there’s still quite a lot to do. I have a few friends who want to jump onto the UC train but they’re not pulling the trigger until more wrinkles are ironed out. I hope they’re able to further optimize battery usage with the current hardware. Etc. But I do think they have the ambition to make this feel and operate like a high end product.

The defenestration risk for me was entirely battery. That is now ok, 2.5 evenings of watching without needing the dock.

Hope for further improvements but I can live with the current power management.

What did you do to improve battery life?

Has been ok for the recent beta releases, with “Keep WiFi connected in Standby” ticked/on.

I also have WiFi connected in standby but it’s eating my battery quickly. I can’t get 6 hours, much less 2.5 days. We must have our remotes configured in very different ways but I don’t know what that would be.

Had a browse of settings. Only other relevant config is probably “Prevent Sleep” is OFF for every activity.

IIRC we needed it on prior to the last few betas because WiFi reconnect was too slow. Now it’s not needed.

“Display of timeout” = 10s

“Sleep timeout” = 30s

“Wake sensitivity” = max

Interesting. I have Prevent Sleep ticked on because it absolutely needed to be in previous weeks. I’ll try turning it off and hopefully there won’t be an issue with communication latency.
