Hi. first time here, so please go easy.
I’ve been messing around with the R3 in my (very) limited spare time but am struggling to get it to work completely. I have the following entities:
Samsung QN900b - partially working with the Samsung TV integration
Yamaha AVR RX A870 - can get it to turn on currently and hdmi switching👀
Panasonic bluray DMP BDT180 - partially working
Apple TV - working partially with the integration.
As mentioned, i haven’t been able to spend much time with the remote due to hectic work/home life but have been very impressed so far.
I’m main problems i’m struggling with are the source selection when changing activities (i.e go from watch TV to Apple TV and then back to watch TV - always seems to mess up the source or even turn the AVR off).
I’m also at a loss how to setup channels on the touchscreen and add logos once setup - i.e how would i set up channel 103 on the touchscreen then add a logo (and can I set the remote to always start on a particular channel on startup of the watch TV activity)?
Is there anyway of uploading profiles for select entitites/activiites that others have working and have downloaded?
Apologies for the million and one questions. I’m eager to get it working in the small amount of time I have with it during the week
Thanks Craig
Switching a device on/off is a matter of activity groups. Alle activities of a room belong into the same activity group.
Concerning channel 103: I created macros with 1, delay, 0, delay, 3 (optional delay+enter). I created an icon widget with the macro as entity and I could add a personal icon as a label. Icons for the display must be 90x90 in size..
This is how one of my activity pages looks like:

Are you familiar with activity groups? Despite the name they have nothing to do with actual groups in the ui but rather sort your activity in zones/areas. With this the remote knows which activities can be on at the same time. There is a long support article about them at support.unfoldedcircle.com but the tldr is put everything in one group and make sure to only use discrete power commands and no toggles in you on/off sequences.
Additional icons can be uploaded in the custom tab when selecting an icon. For channel numbers you can either use macros or you if have a (infrared, Bluetooth or External/IP) remote entity you can use the send command sequence resp. ir sequence command. With this you can combine commands separated with a comma.
Thanks Ralf and Kenny. I’ll hopefully get to commit some real time to it over the coming days.
Ralf - loving your activity page - that’s pretty much like what i’m after.
I’m still stuck on using an old Harmony Elite so when talking about activities and groups am not 100% sure what the difference is. Is Watch TV / Watch Apple TV an activity or activity groups?
As mentioned I am able to get ‘watch TV’ to work, but then when I select ‘Watch Apple TV’ whilst watching TV sometimes the source it selects is wrong through the receiver. It also struggles if i need to go back to Watch TV.
Watch TV and Watch AppleTv are two separate activities. If you put them both in an activity group, the remote will behave like your Harmony. E.g. when you switch from Watch TV to Watch AppleTV, the remote will power on the AppleTV, switch to the correct input on your TV and power off all devices from the previous activity not required.
Hi,
me too but I can asure you that it was quite some work as I did it for more than 10 different activities. Perhaps a good work for a holiday.
I also have a similar page for direct start of Apps. The R2/R3 have almost unlimited possibilities. The basic is similar to Harmony, Activities, Start/End Sequences, button and display mapping. The main difference is that the Harmony supported you with wizards and more or less useful presets.
Ralf
Thanks for all your help. Think i’m about 95% there with getting it working how i like it
Still having an issue when powering down the Watch AppleTV activity from my group - hitting the power button brings up the power off menu on the apple, ok then turns it and the tv off but not the AVR. However, If I switch back to ‘WatchTV’ activity then hit the power button all devices power down. Not ideal, but a workaround until I work out which bit is causing it not to play nicely
Is there a way to run an app on the apple tv directly from a pre-programmed logo on the oled display.
I have tv channel macros running great (although reckon it will take me an age to get them all on), but was wondering if you could run apps from the apple tv/or tv directly from the display (Netflix/Iplayer/Plex etc.).
Thanks again.
Does Apple TV need Power+Enter to switch off? If yes create a power off macro with these commands and use it instead of the normal power off in the end sequence. I have an Apple TV but only for fun I know less than nothing about it.
What do you mean with OLED? The display auf the remote? If yes the magic word is input or source. Normally you should see then below the command a list of installed Apps. If you create an icon widget you can also define/upload a suitable Icon like on my display.
As I said Apple TV only for fun so only 2 Apps defined.
Ralf
Thanks again Ralf
Yes, the current AppleTV brings up a sub menu when you click power off and you have to hit ok/enter again to shut it down.
Sorry, yes I meant display when I mentioned OLED.
So I need to create a media macro for the apps and select them from input/source?
Many thanks
Craig
Regarding powering off the AppleTV, are you using the AppleTV integration or Bluetooth commands?
My AppleTV activity is based on the integration and I do not run into the problem you are seeing.
Thanks Heimspielvier.
I’m using bluetooth currently. i’ll try swapping control over to the integration when I get home. Did you find the integration works straight away or did you have to map some of the buttons?
Thanks.
Craig
My AppleTV activity only uses the integration and no bluetooth at all. You will have to remap the buttons and replace the Bluetooth commands with the integration commands. In the integration you will find a „Switch on“ and a „Switch off“ command. If you use these in your on and off sequences, everything should work smoothly. My suggestion would be to copy your existing activity and then remap the buttons. Otherwise you have to re-do everything should you decide to go back to Bluetooth.
Craig, thanks for asking the questions you have and a big “thank you”to Ralf for your easy to understand reply’s. These simple set up questions could be major stumbling blocks for myself (waiting for my remote3 to arrive) and other not so savvy owners of this great new remote.
Will there be a new Remote3 online Manual available in the near future?
An improved documentation with videos has been announced for a long time now shortly after the R2 release but nothing has ever happened besides some very basic articles. Some infos are also only available on GitHub in the core-api repository.
Where did you find a Samsung TV integration?
here you find almost all current integrations.
