Strange behavior opening Web Configurator

Hi ALL.

I’ve been using the R2 for quite some time and am very pleased with it. Granted I had a LOT of frustration when I first got it and the learning curve was VERY steep. But with much help from this forum I was able to get it to do everything that my Harmony did and much more.

Anyway I haven’t been going into the configurator for a while since everything is working the way I want, but I needed to make some minor changes. So I used the bookmark with the URL the R2 had set up (http://remotetwo-xxxxxxxxxxx.local/configurator/#/) and then I unlock it but then it says that its disconnected and tries to reconnect. I tried again a few times and still got the same results. The R2 was in its dock so there should have been no problem connecting. I then went into my router and got the 4 number IP address for the remote and went to that and I got some kind of general R2 page and one of the links on that page was to go to the configurator. I clicked on that link and unlocked the remote and everything was fine!

Sometimes the URL works just fine but when it can’t connect I use the IP address and then I can get in. STRANGE!

Has anyone seen a similar problem and if so is there any way to correct it?

Gerry

Some routers may have issues when resolving the mDNS .local domain. I personally always use the ip address to access the web configurator and also configured the dock to use the ip as a custom url.
I don’t think there’s any advantage to using the .local domain instead if you reserved the ip for the remote’s mac address in your routers dhcp server.

If this doesn’t help it could also be a WiFi problem. There have been reports that the remote constantly switches between to access points. Pinning it to one should solve this.

Hi kennymc.c,

Its probably just the router doesn’t like the .local domain URL as you said. I just changed the bookmark into the IP address and that should avoid the problem.

I also just want to say that you had responded to many of my calls for help when setting up the R2 and I REALLY APPRECIATE all the help you have given me!!

Thanks again,
Gerry
