Remote shows "connection to dock not established" regularily

I regularly see “connection to dock not established” when I try to use a hard button sending an IR code. I thought this was happening only after the remote had fallen asleep which was annoying enough, but it just happened in the middle of me doing something.

I started moving back in a show. That worked. Something like 5 seconds later, I pressed play and got the error.

I haven’t yet setup a static IP for the dock. Could that help?

I think I’m mostly getting this with an activity using this IR remote that I needed to learn the codes for, but might be seeing it at other times.

Any other thoughts? Should I file a bug?

Best option is to use a cable. Next best have a repeater or access point near the dock. Fixed IP might help a bit. Avoid channel 12&13. WPA3 not yet supported.

My last disconnection was 2 days ago and I monitor the connection once a minute.

I know I mentioned static IP, but is this really a Wifi problem? If so, I would have thought it would impact more than IR commands. I’ve confirmed that actions in the activity that do not use IR (like muting the Denon receiver) work even when I’m getting this error. It seems more likely to me that this is a problem with the remote connecting to the Dock.

Is communications between the remote and dock done via TCP/IP or Bluetooth?

Dock & remote using BlueTooth for 1st setup only I think. If paired they speak via network. As I said fixed IP might help a bit. The reason you are only getting an error when using IR devices is that IP devices like the Denon are controlled by network directly from the remote.

You can try and activate IR transmitter of the remote itself in settings, preview features. Then you can select the remote to transmit IR in the IR entities. I do not yet have my R3 so I cannot tell how strong it is. My R2 is only for smaller distances of 3-4m.

Cool. I can do Ethernet to test, but it isn’t the most convenient long term. I’ll also give the IR on the remote a try.

Thanks for your insights.
