Remote is taking actions by itself

I am in dialogue with Unfolded Circle Support-Team. I have been asked to ship back the remote for checking and repairing

I hope it will not take forever…

The support from the Unfolded Circle team is really bad - always fluffy answer if getting an answer at all. If an answer is coming, it took forever! This is absolutely not matching my expectations of a product costing more than 500€!

Now I need to wait … hopefully not forever… I will keep you updated.

Because of the unwanted touch inputs? As mentioned before this seems to be a software issue that doesn’t need any on site inspection. Have they confirmed it’s not the issues that connected to the display Initialization problems?

Yea, about the spontaneous activities taken by the RC itself.

I already referred to this discussion and asked for a software issue, but as always Unfolded Circle support is not really answering on the details. I was referring to a potential relationship to the version 2.9.0, but they asked me to send in the remote.

The support for such kind of product (> 500€) is really unprofessional.

Now the RC is already on its way to UC.

Crossing my fingers, that I will get it back in time and that it will not be an already repaired different RC they will ship back.

I had the same problem with “ghost touches” after updating to v.2.9.0 and it was getting even worse with v2.9.1. After some mail conversation UC support asked me to ship my remote to them. But I denied, did a factory reset instead and moved back to v2.8.4. At this point, no “ghost touches” anymore and Remote3 is working in an acceptable way. IMHO this seems to be more like a software problem.

Similar issue here but with the (volume) slider, randomly when the remote is not in hand but on a surface, the volume slider can be seen moving up and down as if a ghost is pushing it along. A reboot fixes it. (Volume via IP Home Assistant, Yamaha amp) I also have the random touchscreen blur / dim which is also fixed by a reboot. Version 2.8.4, Remote 3

I’m having the same issue. The remote will randomly start opening every app I have a shortcut on the remote for. YouTube, Apple TV, Netflix, etc.. It’s a pain in the ass and pretty embarrassing for a $400 remote. I have to reboot the remote to get it to stop. Especially now that all of the Kickstarter remotes have been shipped, there should be more time to refine the software. It seems to be getting worse.

We’re aware of this issue and it’s our top priority right now. It’s been tricky to pin down since it’s sporadic, but we’re actively working on it. Thanks for your patience.

So is it an hardware or software issue?

It’s software. We’re getting a few devices that produce this issue more to catch the cause which is most likely timing.

If of any help, I noticed the remote was significantly warmer than usual when this was happening, seen it maybe 3 times total.

Great, I was asked to ship back my remote, but this doesn’t make sense, when facing a software issue.

As always Unfolded Circle is not answering or just sending common statements. Nobody is willing to get back to me with an precise answer about when/how I will get back my device. This seems to be really unprofessional for an 500€ device. I assume, warranty will get prolonged by the time of absence.

If my device is needed for test-purposes, welcome, but I should be informed and asked upfront. And at least a replacement device should be shipped.

If the product is seen as a beta-release, this should have been pointed out more obvious when starting the buying process.

The Remote 3 looks and feels quite nice, but the service is not even bad - there is no real service.

So any updates on this issue? Priority software issues are usually fixed within a short period of time. It’s probably been close to a month with the remote having a mind of its own. Between having to constantly turn off WiFi and turn it back on to get the remote to connect after it sleeps and this issue this remote is turning into a $400 shit show.

As mentioned before, support/service is annoying. Unfolded Circle is not replying, neither into this forum-conversation nor when contacting them directly. On April 20th they confirmed that they received my Remote3 (on their request and letting me think it is a hardware issue)with knowing already that it is a software bug.

After that no reaction at all!

A former excuse was that they are a small team only. But no real individual feedback, no timeline, no excuse for distributing bad software - nothing. I even do not know when and in what condition I will get back my RC. I feel right now as being a sponsor of a playground from some nerds and not like buying something from a professional company! This is not fitting at all to a 500€ product!

Marton any resolution to this issue? We paid too much money for a remote that is having software issues that prevent it from working.

At this point I’m having to reboot my remote 4-5x a day between the WiFi disconnects making it inoperable and it switching apps on its own.

An update would be expected at a minimum.

Obviously I’m not happy either with these issues, but I installed the beta firmware myself because I saw new pretty features  .

If you install beta firmware you can expect stuff to break.

I cannot remember a new release, but betas only. Seems like essential features are only in beta - like using additional WLAN channels. Nevertheless the support is bad, as they can have asked for going back to a final release, but instead I had to ship back my remote.

Unfolded Circle can improve their service a lot!

I started experiencing this exact issue a few weeks ago as well. The screen starts sliding back-n-forth between devices and it sends commands to the AV system. Overall the SW is more glitchy and requires more restarts and the battery drain is worse.

Downloaded 2.9.2 today hoping it would provide a fix. Nope, same old shit, just another day with just an updated software version that doesn’t provide fixes for actual issues.

Another one here experiencing the same issues, remote randomly activates activities, often switches to the settings screen or the device state screen and seems to lock on these pages. Only solution is to reboot the unit which gives a couple of hours respite.

For what it’s worth it only started to happen after a recent software update (not the latest but one prior) I tried a factory reset and rebuild hoping it would drop back to the firmware originally shipped but it reloaded with the latest one I updated to. This did not cure the issue either.

I’ll raise it with UC but am having to resort to a handful of remotes in the meantime.

I recommend not to ship back the Remote. I did it on request of Unfolded Circle, but the only feedback I got so far was a confirmation that it arrived. If it is a software bug, they will not do any hardware repairs and - ad I see - just use your remote for test-purposes. Although I already asked several times (email to support as well as PM to Marton - I have not received any responses.

I wonder about European rights regarding canceling the purchase.
