Remote 3 wifi issues

The remote works and is great except for one issue. It appears when tthe remote goes into sleep mode it disconnects from the wifi. When it wakes it takes a long time to reconnect and sometimes requires going into settings and cycling the wifi to get it to reconnect. For such a awesome remote this is make it almost unusable. Is there a workaround for this? Can sleep mode be disabled? Am I doing something wrong?

Activate “prevent sleep” in activities. As long as an activity is active.

I don’t see “activties” I am new to this so maybe I am missing it. What setting is it under?

You must create an activity.

Ok I see what you are talking about but that doesn’t really solve my issue. It does if I am using a activity I suppose but any time I pick up the remote that it is not currently being used for activity it struggles to reconnect to the wifi. And sometimes even when it is not asleep is does this. I just seems the wifi connection is always shutting off and struggling to reconnect. Again I understand that in sleep mode that this it should disconnect but when I am using it it should not.

Do you have auto wifi for band and channel in your router activated? In 2.4GHz the remote does not allow channel 12&13.

Ralf

I do but I have 2.4 dedicated to channel 3. I will try switching to 5g only and see if it resolves it. This remote is literally perfect for me in every other way unfortunately this makes it almost unusable for me. The weird thing is sometimes there is no issue. It reconnects from sleep and works other times both reconnecting from sleep or in the middle of use it drops wifi and won’t reconnect without cycling the wifi on the remote. I initially thought this was a issue with my wifi. That is why I dedicated 2.4 to channel 3. Butnif it were a issue with the wifi why would cycling the remote fix it? Maybe I am missing something I am not the best at troubleshooting these types of things.

Yeah the R3 sucks at reconnecting to WiFi.
I solved it by having a single activity, with prevent sleep enabled, and never exiting it.

How did this make it out of beta testing. This makes the remote unusable. What a shame. Literally it you could prevent the sleep totally it would solve it.

Create a fake activity that does nothing and remains on, it’ll keep the remote from ever going to sleep unless you want it to.

Im experiencing the same issue. Even when I inhibit sleep, it still loses connection with wifi then loses connection with the dock. The remote is hard to use in a stable manner at the moment

I don’t see an option to manually set an IP address as opposed to DHCP. Perhaps eliminating DHCP cycle could make things a little better.

Fixed IP not possible only always same IP with the help of the DHCP server.

I have tried the always on activity work around and while it happens less it still happens. There is more going on than just the wifi disconnecting. This should not be this temperamental. It is a total crap shoot whether the remote will work or not when I pick it up.

What kind of network equipment (access points) are you using?

I have experienced a very similar issue with my Unifi gear and it turned out that the remote does not properly support “BSS transition”. Turning off “BSS transition” for my WiFi in the Unifi network settings has solved the issue for me. I kind of dislike this solution, but at least it’s something…

I use a tp link deco mesh system.

Mesh systems are known to cause issues once in a while.

Could you please check your TP-Link system and check if “fast roaming” and “bss transition” are turned off? I am not familiar with TP-Link but maybe this helps:

the wifi waking needs a fix. its clearly not good enough. even with activities disabling sleep, it still disconnects

Fully agreed, the wifi reconnect needs to be fixed. However the Wifi setup at home is, it shouldn’t be the case that the remotes needs 1-2 seconds from picking it up to be fully functional. I was anyway surprised when I realized it needed Wifi to work. I was expecting it to communicate with the dock in a different way.

Yeah. And for OP and me it sometimes never reconnects (or only by going to WiFi settings). It sure is broken but in my case it helped to disable BSS transition and fast roaming. That’s why I suggested to check if the WiFi equipment supports changing these settings. It sure is just a temporary fix - in the long run this needs to be fixed in a R3 firmware update.
