Remote 3 occasionally wakes up with green monochrome display and horizontal lines

Hi,

I have encountered a sporadic display issue with my Remote 3 and wanted to check if anyone else has seen something similar.

The issue only occurs occasionally and so far only when the remote wakes up from sleep after being picked up. I have never seen it happen during normal active use.

Symptoms:

  • The entire display turns green/monochrome.

  • The UI remains fully visible and readable.

  • All buttons and commands continue to work.

  • Touch input still works, but it feels slightly less accurate than normal.

  • There are horizontal lines across the entire display.

  • The problem only seems to occur when the remote is used off the charging dock.

  • A reboot of the remote immediately restores normal operation and correct colors.

I have attached a photo of the issue.

Current firmware is up to date on both the Remote 3 and the Dock.

Because the display returns completely to normal after a reboot, I suspect this may be related to the wake-up/display initialization process rather than a hardware or OLED panel failure.

Has anyone experienced a similar green monochrome screen with horizontal lines after wake-up?

What does up to date mean? 2.9.4 is latest version.

Restarting remote will fix it.

It is known. I only had it once in almost 2 years.

Thanks for the confirmation.
I am currently running 2.8.4 and the remote reports that it is up to date.
The issue has occurred 3 to 4 times recently, always after wake-up off the charging dock.
A reboot fixes it every time.
I have never seen it happen during normal active use.

If you enable beta update you will see 2.9.4 which works stable for me and a lot of others on discord.

Thanks for the information.

I was running 2.8.4 Stable when the issue occurred. Based on your suggestion, I have now updated to 2.9.4 Beta and will monitor it.

In my case, the green monochrome display with horizontal lines has occurred 3 to 4 times recently, always after waking the remote up off the charging dock. I have never seen it happen during normal active use.

A reboot restores normal operation every time.

I’ll update this thread if it happens again on 2.9.4.

The more software updates that get pushed the shittier the remote gets. I never had ghost touches, screen freezes, horizontal lines or random pixelation of the screen when I first got the remote in January. Every software release since seems to make the remote worse. I’m on 2.9.4 in case it matters.

If this only happens after wake-up these artefacts are a known issue that are also mentioned in the release notes. The workarund is to restart the remote. It’s a software and not a hardware issue and exists for a while now but as it’s random not everyone have noticed it yet. UC is in contact with the display manufacturer to fix. Thanks for the clarification and for sharing the GitHub issue.

My remote shows exactly these symptoms only after wake-up, and a reboot always fixes it. It’s good to know that this is a known software issue and not a hardware problem.
