Hello, still learning about this product, but wondered if the Dock is ‘required’ for IR?
Reason I ask, is that I notice there is an integration built in for GlobalCache products, and I currently have 2 WiFi2IR iTach devices, which are really good.
Does that mean I would be good to go in just pre-ordering the remote itself, as I can use my iTach’s for handling the IR Blasting?.
Thanks in advance,
Nice sharing the same screenery with you.
Hi,
in Theory yes but the dock is also used for charging but this can be done with a wireless charger. There is also a community project whch is recocknized as a dock and can be used as IR transmitter and for short distances even the remote itself could transmit IR signals.
btw. WiFi2IR I have also one of the old models and was in the configuration page and could enter my credentials. Problem is that it was not in my network after a reboot. Are there any tricks?

Oh, I see. Well, was a reason I was wanting to get the Remote by itself, as with the dock it’s getting pretty close to my country’ (New Zealand) customs/duty limit. (NZ$1000)
I would hate to wait for the device, then get hit with Duties and another 15%GST.
I am (or was) a Logitech Harmony Elite user, so kinda bummed that I can no longer even alter my config anymore.
I actually don’t really require IR as such, as all my gear uses Bluetooth or IP control.
Couple of FireTV Cubes, couple of NVidia Shields, running NextPVR backend on a PC, which uses a Hauppauge Colossus card with blast IR to a set top box, and use Kodi as front end.
That was going to be my very 2nd posting on this forum, in regards to my AV Receiver (Yamaha RX-A1070) and my TV (Sony A8F)
ie. Will the Remote 3 work with above AVR and Sony Oled TV?
Regarding the iTach’s. Have not used them for a while, but by memory, I had to go into their web configuration, and set them up with a static IP. Then one of the ports is a ‘blaster’ port. (port three I believe)
I used it with ‘Girder’ to send a wake up command to one of my pieces of equipment, which kept going into standby.
I have used the iTach’s with NextPVR too, but has the Hauppauge card directly supported IR blasting, I just use that to change channels.
By memory, the itach has it’s own wifi server on a unique address, so you have to connect to that wifi server, perform your changes, and then restart device.
I think I used a globalcache little utility that scans and connects to the devices current network settings.
I will have to mess around with the device again, but I do remember it worked very well.
Looks good for you other devices:
