Nothing works, other that basic web interface

Hey All,

I’ve been trying to set up my remote 3 with dock, but other than the basic web interface almost nothing works.

  • the button on the dock doesn’t work. Had to hardwire it
  • When trying to learn IR codes, the dock just displays “UNKNOWN”, regardless of the remote
  • I can’t upload any custom integrations. Every integration I try results in a timeout

I really want this remote to work, because of the potential and because the hardware is just stunning.
But I’m starting to think that the devices I have are faulty (??).

Any help and/or pointers are greatly appreciated!

Follow the steps and after that you should be able to add entities and create activities.

The button is the small recessed area on the top and not very sensetive and hard to touch with most fingers. Try to use your fingernails to press it. It should cycle through different Dock infos on the display.

If an error is shown while learning an IR code, try again and hold the remote a bit closer, pointing directly at the Dock’s IR receiver. If several attempts in a row show the same error, the IR protocol is likely not supported by the Dock or the signal quality is insufficient for decoding. The lastest Dock beta firmware supports raw ir learning and sending but this feature is not yet integrated into the remote itself. The new dock web interface allows you to send and test raw codes if your device is really using an unspported protocol.

Try to place the remote in the Dock to prevent the remote going into sleep mode while the file is uploaded. Actually the web configurator should have a timer of 15 minutes to prevent sleep mode but maybe the wifi on the remote is getting disconnedted? You should see a crosed out wifi icon on the top right in this case.

Thanks to everyone for comments and suggestions.

Here’s an update:

  1. Button: I know/knew where the button is, but could not get it to work. I finally managed by grinding down an eraser on a pencil to a pointy shape, and that worked. As mentioned (or alluded to) there is zero haptic feedback
  2. IR Learning: The link to the article with the supported IR protocols was very helpful. “Unknown” means an unsupported IR protocol - even though Cisco says (the device I’m trying to add, a Cisco Cable/DVR box) they’re using a “standard IR protocol” (their words). I was able to verify that IR learning works using a Roku remote.
  3. Uploading an integration: in one of the videos on YT the guy mentioned he was having trouble using Chrome for some things. I actually use Edge, but that’s also Chromium based. So, I fired up a VM and installed Firefox, and that worked without any problems.

That leaves me with my Cisco Cable/DVR problem (model 9865HDC). Anyone by any chance have an idea on that one?

The Global Cache database appears to have the IR codes for that Cisco STB. Have a look here: Database | Global Caché Control Tower . You’ll need to register with that site to be able to download the full IR code set. There are multiple postings on this forum on how to convert the downloaded file into a format to use with UC.

Apparently the ir codes for your model are effectively the same as for the 9000HD. The codes for the 9000HD are available in Global Cache so you could add these to the remote directly. https://irdb.globalcache.com/Home/Database
