None of integration works on remote 3

Hi guys, I just received my remote 3 and dock last week but I have not been able to get it working with Oppo, Sony projector or Marantz AV processor integrations. They are installed successfully and found those entities on my network and I have given them fixed IP. However, they don’t respond to any commands with time out error messages after a while. I have those devices on while trying sending them commends.

Am I missing something? Do I need home assistance or something else to make IP control to work? I never tried home integration before so this maybe a dumb question as I can’t find answer on this forum.

Cheers

Eddie

You do not need home assistant, but you need to provide a bit more info.

You setup the remote, its connected to WiFi succesfully?

is the remote on the same network as the devices you trying to add?

when you go through the integration setup, does it complete? stay connected? did you add the entities? set up an activity?

did you check the logs as well?

if you just got the remote and dont know how to check the above, let us know otherwise if you could answer these questions it will help guide to the next step.

walk us through what you did, or add some screenshots.

Hi MaSe, it’s yes to all your question, apart from checking the log. I’m not sure what to screen shot as set up went smoothly. Added entities and set up activities too. I have factory reset the remote last night and start from scratch again. Don’t want to waste my time configuring integrations again before learning a bit more about how they work.

So they SHOULD work without home assistant? What about router settings? Any router setting would prevent IP control from working?

yes, they do not need/rely on home assistant to work. if you dont want to waste time troubleshooting, check the logs. go to settings/development/logs download the logs and check there what happened after you pressed some command buttons.

the reason why i suggested adding screenshot is to validate your activity config,

if you do not want to troubleshoot further until you learn more, here is a great series of videos about the remote that should help you learn everything including setup

i suggested screenshot just so we can maybe see what was done, how it is to try and help.

if you setup everything properly and sucuesfully added integration, and sucesfully setup either a devices page or an activity and done everything correctly and nothing work, check logs .

as to answer your question about router:

remote need to be on the same network as the device you setup to control and it need to be connected to WiFi to function. same for the docs. if you were able to setup the integration , router is not blocking you. if you setup via docker and exposed specific port, and you blocking that port, that is a possiblity. please, share more information - hard to debug not knowing what was done.

Yes HA or any other home automation is only an option that CAN be used. I can say that Denon/Marantz work for me with Marantz 1509 and Denon 4400. Which Marantz do you have? How did you do the setup? Normally it is only entering the IP and selecting options. After that you should already be able to do some testing with the entity.

Go to customize you remote, add a page, edit page and add the Marantz entities. You can now select the entity from the home page of the remote and do your 1st steps. I have no Oppo and no Sony.

Thank you guys for your feedback. I did watch those configurations video before I did mine. They looked pretty straight forward so I was surprised those custom integrations didn’t work for me. Apple TV integration does work though, only custom integrations didn’t work. I have Marantz AV8805A, Oppo 203 and Sony VW807ES projector. The error messages were showing up on the remote so I wasn’t sure how to screen shot that. The network was fine, everything is connected and showing on my network list and those devices were showing on remote or web configurator too.

Anyway, I will start from scratch again, knowing I do not need third party software or hardware for them to work. I will also take screen shots along the way in case they still dont work. Cheers

What is Globalcache integration? Do I need to install that for custom integrations to work?

Cheers

No, global cache is for devices which you have that use InfraRed and you either do not have the code or its not discoverable. you do not need it to work. for your issue, my recomendation still remain. share more details on your setup and/or share logs. you mentioned you dont want to waste your time, however - honestly saying if you dont, thats when you will waste your time…

MaSe, not sure why you kept stuck on “Do Not Want waste my time” part. I only said that because I spent hours setting up buttons, activities etc. So I want to learn if I missed something the first time before I re-do my custom integrations again. I am not familiar with IP control/integration, but I do know native control apps use IP to control and they works. Many guys on forum and YouTube kept talking about Home Assistant so I wonder if that is a requirement for custom integration to work. Now I know it is not required so I will configure again and see anything I missed from the first time.

Like I said, I cant share logs or screen shots with you now because I already factory rest the remote to start from scratch. Unless log from prior factory reset still there? Happy to share more info with you once I start afresh. I also re-watched configuration video that is 1.5hr long again last night. Still cant see anything different to my configuration. But I will try from scratch again and do screen shots and logs before I wipe everything off ( hopefully no need ). Oops

No worries man, it really is less intimidating then it is once you get the hang of it. Logs will get deleted, especially if you factory reset. Try again, if fail, share log and details on what / how you did it.

Good news! Everything works now after starting from scratch again. Somehow those devices were not successfully added to entities the first time, although they are showing under entities with their ip addresses. I suspect their power were off when I added them and because I did manually put in their ip addresses so they still appeared under entities. I cant remember what I did first time exactly but it was smooth and nothing alerted me that was not successfully added. Weird~

Thanks you guys!

hi, can you point me to where the remote from any source (IR or IP) will fill out the “button mapping” or do i have to manually do this? never works.

You have to do it by yourself when you create an activity. The device entities have a more or less complete mapping and GUI but often cannot be changed.
