Need for advices for my future remote 3

Hello All,
I have purchased the remote 3 and it should arrive next month.
I must say I’m very excited to receive it and start with it.
I’m now trying to deep dig into how I will manage this new remote.
It will replace an Harmony Elite.

Here is my configuration:
Sony projector XW5000
Video Processor Lumagen Radiance pro 4242
Audio Processor/Amplifier Onkyo RZ3100
Fire TV 4K
UHD Bluray Oppo UDP203
Media Player Zappiti Reference
Light Philips hue

Currently, everything is controlled through IR, and I guess I can safe start using the harmony hub integration.

However, I would like to take the opportunity of this new remote to build something more modern and reliable as a control.

All my gear will be connected to my network with cable (no wifi except for the harmony hub, and the philips hue hub).

If it helps, I can consider to add a home assistant I currently don’t have, which from my understanding drastically extent the possibilities.

My understanding is that Philips hue is natively compatible with the remote, so no problem with that.

Is one the other equipment natively compatible for the remote?
Can the other become through home assistant?
Is there one for which I will have to stick with IR?

I assume activity can mix equipment whatever the origin (IR, HA, UC integration), right?

And another question:
WIth the Fire TV, is it possible in an activity to launch an application automatically at the start of the fire TV, and then have activity like watch youtube, watch amazon, and the activity is turning on the fire tv and launch the application?

Many thanks in advance for your helpfull advice based on your experience or knowledge.

Regards
Guillaume

Hi Guillaume,

there is a page that shows most supported devices: Supported devices
You can also look in the community-projects channel on the Discord chat that may have some additional integrations listed that are not included in the link above: Discord

  • Sony projector XW5000: Supported via the SonySDCP-integration. I will shortly release a new integration thats based on the more advanced ADCP protocol, so you may want to wait until it’s released.

  • Video Processor Lumagen Radiance pro 4242: Although Pronto IR codes are included in the internal database they will not work as the device is using an older ir protocol thats not supported by the remote. You may need to use HA for that or wait for serial support for the Dock or some that develops an IP integration. UC also plans to support sending and learning raw ir codes which should solve this problem.

  • Audio Processor/Amplifier Onkyo RZ3100: No IP integration yet but should work via IR

  • Fire TV 4K: Should work via Bluetooth. As I don’t own a Fire TV I am not sure if the Android TV integration works too as it needs the Android TV Remote Services to be installed which Amazon may have removed in Fire OS.

  • UHD Bluray Oppo UDP203: There’s a native integration for Oppo Players (see first link)

  • Media Player Zappiti Reference: If I remeber correctly these are similar to Dune HD devices which has a native IP integration (see Discord link). Otherwise it could work with the Android TV integration

  • Light Philips hue: An IP integration exists buts its very basic and lacking of many features like scene support. So you may want to use HA for that too. But they were comments that the integration will be revised using a newer Hue API version.

You can mix any types of integrations inside activities. The Android TV integration e.g. supports to open any app by the app identifier. If you include the source command in the on sequence you are able to automatically start apps like this. But as I mentioned I’m not sure if the Fire TV is supported by the Android TV integration. Maybe there’s a way to map a Bluetooth Key to open a specific app.

Hi,
my old Zappiti worked with Android (TV?) which should work with the Android TV integration. It might need to install Android Remote Service from the Play Store. My new Dunes work with Android TV and BlueTooth integration.

Hey there,
Thanks for your reply.
Looks like my Onkyo amplifier can be integrated into Home Assistant, which is great news.
Looks like having Home Assistant will be a must to enjoy fully the remote 3.
Could you please tell me the discord name or send me an invite?
I’ve never been to any Discord so far (Just subcribe actually), so I’m not sure how to access it.
Thanks

Hi again,
Regarding the lumagen, it has a RS232 port for control.
I can read that one of the dock 3’s IR port can be set up to control RS232 compatible equipment.
Does it mean I can connect my lumagen to the dock 3?
Should I use an IR to RS232 cable?
Can someone point me to a compatible cable, I couldn’t find something like this.
Or am I going to the wrong direction here?
Thanks

Actually, I may be able to use the IR port of the Lumagen to connect to the IR port of the Dock 3 set up as RS232 so the RS232 will then be used…
Has someone tried that?

The first batch Remote 3s and Docks 3s have just been shipped on Thursday so probably no one has a Dock 3 yet. Dock 2 doesn’t support serial/RS232. According to the roadmap serial/RS232 support for the dock will be added later via a software update.
