I watched this Sofabaton X2 review by one of my favorite smart home enthusiasts. He mentioned that he reached out to the UC folks and never heard back (at approximately 10:40 in the video). With over 700,000 subscribers, I think this would have been a great opportunity to promote the Remote 3! @marton @lutz
Probably one of the countless “influencers” who only give reviews in exchange for…something….
There’s really no need to support that kind of thing.
No, he is legit. I’ve been watching his channel for years. Check it out for yourself if you’re interested.
I watched a couple of his videos on some presence detection and dashboards in home assistant.
Blocked his content pretty quickly.
lol, ok. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But regardless of whether you like the guy or not, he has over 700k followers. I just think it’s a good opportunity to promote the remote.
This can be interpreted as “Unfolded Circle wouldn’t send me a free remote, so I’m going to recommend this Sofabaton X2 that I was given for free.”
Same with Youthman.
I’ve been able to review the Remote Two and Remote 3 because I bought them both.
@thrillcat This is certainly a fair point about bias and something always worth noting about reviews/reviewers. I’ve seen your stuff and I appreciate your channel.
That said, there’s also a fair point about UC and the way they approach the business side of a startup. From customer service to marketing to social media and influencing, they’re lost. They are gifted on the engineering and product development side but really need some help in other areas.
I appreciate that UC puts backers and paying customers ahead of those asking for freebies.
I review stuff. I’m sent stuff. I never expect free stuff and will buy things I’m truly interested in. I don’t give either preferential treatment in the reviews. Others only review things that are given to them for free, which presents elimination bias. Just because there are fewer reviews of the UC shouldn’t be an indication people don’t like it. It’s because they didn’t give out press samples.
