How to enable R3 microphone for Nvidia Shield Pro remote?

Hi all, I’m a new user here and loving my R3 after spending a few weeks getting it to work with my Home Theatre. I’m using both the Bluetooth and AndroidTV IP integration with my Nvidia Shield Pro (don’t know which one is better, but AndroidTV integration does contain a separate power on and off code that works with Activities better than the Bluetooth power toggle).

The only function missing is the microphone button on my Shield Pro which allows voice searches in YouTube, Plex or other Shield Apps. I understand there are microphones on our R3 but how do I activate those to send the voice data to my Shield? I’ve tried both the Voice Command in Bluetooth and Integrations but it doesn’t seem to be working. Has anyone gotten this to work? If so how?
I see that more voice integrations are on the road map 2025, but I can’t find what of that list has been achieved. It seems like voice for Home Assistant is top of list, but does this extend down to Shield/ANDROID TV Integrations?

Thanks for your help.

Mics at the moment not in use for any function.

Oh, thank you very much for your reply. Do you know if the voice integrations on the road map 2025 will include Shield/AndroidTV integrations? I guess the horizontal touch bar isn’t implemented either?

No idea what will happen with mic and speaker.

Touchbar can be configured in 2.7.3 beta but only for some devices which supports certain commands like Denon/Marantz and Sonos for volume.

A Home Assistant integration with voice assistant support is already available in the Core Simulator 0.66.2 and newer docker images so it shouldn’t take that long anymore to make it in one of the next updates. Other integrations will likely follow to be updated with voice support as well if the library/api used by that integration supports voice input.

Oh that’s great @HarmonyFan thanks! I have Denon Integration running… how safe is 2.7.3 beta or should I just wait? I’m a newbie at this whole thing!

Thanks @kennymc.c - I’m totally new to Home Assistant, only started running it since I got this remote 2 months ago (steep learning curve). What is Core Simulator 0.66.2? I’m running HA in a docker container on my QNAP NAS and my NVidia Shield is recognized in HA - how do I enable voice assistant through that?

The Core simulator simulates the remote core an the web configurator on other hardware than the remote. It can also connect to a software version of the remote ui but I don’t think it supports voice input. Both is for testing integrations or learn how to use the remote when you’re waiting for one.

I am on 2.7.3 and had no problem. I always used beta since first came out.
