Help needed with programming

Is there anyone in the USA Massachusetts area who might be able to help me. I seem to be unable to understand how to program this remote in any way at all.

I was hoping to replace my 25 year old Phillips Pronto with something more modern. I am only controlling a projector, preamp, roko, cable TV, and maybe bluray for basic commands. so far I have only been able to connect to my Wifi and the remote is a paper weight which will be sold if I cannot use it…

thanks, Steve

check this great video series made by @Thrillcat

high quality, easy to follow step by step guides, this should help you immensly, if you have specific questions, happy to help.

I am not familiar with home assistant since I don’t have any home integration. Is this necessary with remote 3 ? there are several version, which one do I need? I can’t tell if if it is a download or a purchase…

You do not need to have home assistant for the remote to function. How about this :

Can you lay out all the devices you wish to control with your uc3 remote and we’ll start from there?

thanks !!

Anthem avm 60 preamp , sony vpl xw500 projector, verizon fios cable tv box, oppo bdp 103 bluray, roku, lutron lights.

these are all of the current components in my theatre that I would like to control. any help is GREATLY appreciated.

steve

Look at the supported devices site as some of you devices can be integrated through integrations: Supported devices

This site is also mentioned in the tutorial videos.

The home assistant video is just one of the many tutorials. Scroll through the topics, there is some really great content.

It took me a while to get my head around programming the remote. I consider myself to be quite tech savvy but I was pulling what little hair I have left out of my head at times. There doesn’t seem to be decent instructions provided with the Remote £ so as has been said trawl through YouTube and see what you can find.

It will also be very helpful if you understand how the Remote and the Docks work with each other, especially if you are using IR commands for some things.

I would also take time to understand the difference between Integrations, Activities, Entities, Groups and Activity Groups!!!

I’m not making any progress. I’ve watched too many videos and don’t quite understand how to add or implement any of my devices . nothing is on the web configurator to work with… all of thrillcat’s videos refer to home assistant or assume you already know how to do some of this. the useful instructions for a novice in this area are awful ! I am so upset that I cannot use this device

Which videos did you watch? He also talks about the other custom integrations for Kaldeidescape and Storm audio. They have nothing to do with Home Assistant. Home Assistant is just another integration but the concept of configuring the remote is the same. Watch all videos from the beginning. There is also a video from another user that describes the setup process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYleB3fI_Cg

watch this video explicitly from this time mark: https://youtu.be/k-84aIIDXqI?t=464

I appreciate all the videos that have been provided and have watched most of them. Unfortunately, they don’t discuss how to add a remote control or device that is not available thru supported devices, or how to download one of the existing files and implement it onto the webconfigurator. Non of my components are listed and non are connected to any type of home network. I have managed to add some generic entities and manually program some buttons from my manufacturer remote but this is hardly ideal and I still can’t add one for my cable tv.

You going to have to learn how to navigate this remote, its not as simplistic as logitech harmony, granted. but i watched the same videos and read and all the information is there….

went through your original post.

  1. Anthem AVM 60: here is a direct link to the infra red codes for your AVM. you can download and upload directly into the UC remote giving you infra red full control over your AVM: https://anthemav.com/downloads/AVM60-MRXx20-IR-hex.xlsx you will need to choose from which device you want to control it (remote, dock etc).
  2. sony vpl xw500: GitHub - kennymc-c/ucr-integration-sonyADCP: Integration for Unfolded Circle Remote Devices to control Sony projectors that support the ADCP protocol instructions on github, you will need to upload the tar.gz to the remote, install and configure
  3. Verison Fios: codes can be found here TV Remote Codes | Verizon TV Support you will need to download (or create) the codes and re upload to your remote. (or teach your remote using your original fios remote)
  4. oppo player: GitHub - henrikwidlund/unfoldedcircle-oppo: Unfolded Circle integration driver for the Oppo Blu-ray players same, upload tar.gz and configure
  5. roku: this one is built into the remote, when you click on “add integration” you should have that automatically show “roku”, choose that and follow the prompts
  6. Luthron, i could not find one, but if you use home assistant you can add via that

Now, i completely acknowledge and understand its not as intuative and might be overwhelming which is why you struggle to get this to work. that being said, it is a learning curve, however once you get the hang of it its pretty simple and repetative, other then the luthron, all your other devices are supported.

read the installtion instructions on the github links. in a TL;DR fashion you essentially go to web configuration –> integration –> add new –> custom –> upload –> upload the tar.gz –> wait for it to upload –> find it and click on it –> follow the setup instructions

for native ones: web configuration –> integration –> add new –> chose the one you want (roku) –> find it and click on it –> follow the setup instructions

Adding to @M.a.S.e 's email above, if you want to use IR for the Sony projector, give the IR codes below a try. Just create a new, blank IR entity and upload the csv file:

For the cable TV box, are you able to determine the exact model (e.g. Motorola, Cisco + model number)?

I use mainly IR for my setup, so I totally understand. I have home assistant and all that, but this remote is wonderful for just IR basic functionality. You must get your head around how it works though. You add a “device” or used to be called a “remote”. This is your projector, cable box, TV, AVR, or what have you. Add each device first. Use the IR remote cache database to import a full set of commands. You can also program a device with your manufacturer remote too. Once you add your devices, make an activity. Put what you need in there. Use the IR blasters to hit your devices. I also have an IR repeater fed into my dock, which hits every device. Integrations are for Wi-Fi enabled devices or ones that can be controlled with home assistant. Look back in this forum for old posts about a guide. You have to learn it and once you do….this remote is extremely simple to understand. Sorry. I can help further, but I’m just typing away on a whim at work.

the box is from Verizon VMS4100ATV

Thank you everyone for all the help , links, videos etc… I have a friend coming to visit in a few days who is much more software savvy. I will keep trying and I will figure it out , or I won’t, it might be beyond me. Either way I do thank you all for trying to help me.

with a lot of help from a friend, I have programmed my IR lights, preamp, and projector. unfortunately , my Roku stick and my Verizon Fios remotes seem to be bluetooth and won’t integrate with the remote 3. when I try to pair the verizon remote I first my unpair the supplied remote then the verizon box searches for another remote to pair with. it recognizes the remote 3 but won’t pair because the web configurator is asking for a 6 digit code the does not appear on screen from verizon…

any suggestion on how to integrate these two items ?

In web configurator, settings, development, preview features you can enable “just works” then the R2/R3 can also pair with some devices without asking for a code.

I did it with my PC and tab s6.

I feel you pain Steve, I too haven’t a clue to the programming. I don’t know an integration from an entity from which devices use IR or blutooth, anything really, so call me an illiterate when it comes to universal remotes. Never had one before. I too have watched the various you tube posts only to become more confused. I reached out to Tia as well and mentioned the lack of non native programming information, just third party videos. She seemed willing to help. Some of us need a step by step walk thru, identifying which devices use which protocol etc. I too just have a couple of smart tv’s a Adcom receiver, a a few Roku boxes, no home assistant or anything complicated. You took the words right out of my mouth with the expensive “paper weight” comment. Perhaps returning the unit or listing it for sale might be the remedy, I hope not. Error messages. wifi disconnecting, etc. Have spent a few days now with no results. Please Mr. Borzak, send the posse out to help. Discouraged in Tennessee.
