Delayed order... again

After the first order being delayed almost one year (from memory) I decided to order another one. Delivery was stated as being end of the third quarter. I have just received an email saying it’s going to be the end of the last quarter…

It’s starting to feel a bit familiar. Wouldn’t it make sense for them to actually make units and then sell them instead of this constant cycle of delays?

Quite frustrating.

When ordering my unit, I knew it could take time to be delivered. It was mid-May, with a delivery expected by the end of Q2 - June. Well, this would be quick after all!

Alas, at the end of June it was postponed to the end of July, then to the end of August, then mid of September, and we currently are now targeting to the middle of October.

That would take 5 months. It could be said if sent earlier it would be less than 5 months, yet I doubt this latest deadline would be met, like all the 4 other ones. For whatever reason, I do not expect to receive it before the end of the year.

I understand this is not an easy project, especially when handled by 3 persons only sitting in 3 different countries, yet this repeated failure to meet the dates is questioning. The project is no longer in Quickstarter mode, and lasts to be better structured. The products price increase already in place could help to implement a more robust and mature organisation.

Last but not least, the project would considerably increase its reliability by communicating realistic deadlines.

Don’t disagree although I’m sure like everyone they have been challenged by memory price hikes which are out of their control.

This is indeed the latest explanation provided. Beforehand it was concerning boards that were not technically reliable. The RAM and other memory parts is a genuine issue indeed, yet not explaining Unfolded Circle has been behind schedule for years.

They are no longer a Kickstarter project and need to get on top of this. I ended up cancelling my order and I’m going for something else.

Hopefully they get things sorted out because it’s a project with tremendous potential.
