Connection to Dock Problem

There are many times that i get the error message “connection to dock not established”. My dock is connected via Ethernet in manual mode and it has a static IP address. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I often get this as well. I haven’t figured out yet if it is the dock that is not connected or I’d}f the issue is with the remote.

By static IP you are also referring to setting a custom url in the Dock settings? Make sure to do this if you’re having connection problems: https://support.unfoldedcircle.com/hc/en-us/articles/20018912602524-Manually-add-a-Dock-in-the-Web-Configurator

@kennymc.c Just curious - In my case, it finds the dock 9 out of 10 times. It’s just an occasional issue. Would the manual connection help in this scenario, or is that only if there is a more persistent problem?

It can’t hurt as, mdns can be finicky.

I just removed my docks and re-added manually. I’ll post back in a few days to let you know if I’m still getting the connection issue. Thanks!

Np. Good luck

What really is the point of the dock? I have connected it through ethernet to ensure a stable connection, but the R3 still does all the heavy lifting and ignores the dock and tries to connect per WiFi directly to the router. Why not connect to the dock, which is much closer and has better connectivity?

The point of the dock is to provide infra red connections and extend the remote reach. Think about it as if you have your devices outside of your media room (such as my setup, non of my devices are in the theater room, they are in a rack outside the room in a dedicated server room). Then think about if there is a device that doesn’t have an IP or an existing integration but it does have infra red, that’s where the dock come in. Logitech harmony had the brain on the dock, unfolded kept the brain directly on the remote from what I assume is privacy reasons as well as hardware costs / power reasons. Hope that answer your question.
