Compatibility of Unfolded Circle remote 3 with Somfy devices and home theater?

Hi.

I would like to join the kickstarter project Unfolded Circle Remote 3. I wonder if this remote control will be able to control my blinds in the Somfy system? I have roller blinds with Somfy IO motors throughout the house that connect to the Tahoma Switch controller. He would like to create an action in which the blinds in the living room will be closed and all home theater devices will be turned on.
I also have a few devices in the theater that I haven’t seen officially supported. Will Unfolded Circle Remote 3 be compatible with these devices?

There is a list of integrations available from UC here: Supported devices. But it may not be complete as community integrations have to submitted to appear in that list. Anther place to look for is the community projects channel on the Discord chat.

There is currently no integration for the Somfy/Tahoma controller. The only way to integrate this controller would be through a supported third party home automation system like Home Assistant that requires a seconds device which runs the system.

If the device supports infrared control you most likely will be able to control it through the remote. The integrated database is not very big but there are other database like Database | Global Caché Control Tower which codes can be imported. Otherwise you can also learn each command from the original remote.
There are a few exceptions if the device is using an uncommon or very old ir protocol. This is the used library if your familiar with these protocols: GitHub - unfoldedcircle/IRremoteESP8266: Infrared remote library for ESP8266/ESP32: send and receive infrared signals with multiple protocols. Based on: https://github.com/shirriff/Arduino-IRremote/ Adapted for UCD2
Sending raw ir codes without the need to decode them was mentioned as a planed features but it’s not on the official roadmap (Roadmap). The bugs and feature issue tracker on GitHub also gives you some more infos about upcoming and planned features

Via IP/network integration:

Via IR:

  • philips 77oled818 (Maybe through the Generic Philips tv profile or Global Cache database)
  • pioneer a40ae
  • hama dit2006bt (via Global Cache database)
  • VU Solo 4K (via Global Cache database)

Bluetooth is currently in beta and could be an alternative. If you can pair and control your device with a Bluetooth LE keyboard the remote will also work with this device.

So basically almost nothing works on this remote control. The IR codebase is practically non-existent. I connect to the roller blinds via radio, so nothing will come of it, unless, as you write, via Google Assistant. It looks pretty bad. Considering the price of the beta remote. When is the final version of the pilot expected?

Huh? Almost all of your devices are supported either via IP or IR. I never mentioned Google Assistant. Did you mean Home Assistant?

What do you mean by IP/Network control? How does it work in the case of e.g. denon? The remote control communicates via IP and controls Denon? I haven’t even heard of this possibility.

As for what I wrote, I saw in github that there are practically no devices that I have. So I guess I would have to add all the IR codes manually. I don’t even know how. I have no idea if there is a tutorial for this?

I would also like to control e.g. Ugoos (CoreElec) via Bluetooth and other devices I have.

So far I have 2 Harmony 700 and 650 remote controls and connected via Flirc to various devices. It’s true that everything works, but I know how big the delays are and that’s why I’m looking for a remote control that will work on Bluetooth to avoid this problem.

Hi,
yes Denon&Marantz can be already directly controlled by the R2 and then also R3 through the network. My older Denon 4400 and Marantz 1509 work perfectly.

Android TV is also a network integration which already works for my Philips OLED806 and a lot of media player based on Android TV like the popular NVidia Shield or Google ChromeCast.

BlueTooth is still quite new. It needs BLE and the pairing device to display a code which for instance my Philips TV does not but a Fire TV does.

IR is very simple to add especially if you still have the original remote. Learning codes from the original remote is almost as easy as with a Harmony.

It is very simple, it’s a Remote Control and not a home automation hub. And it does have integrations which makes it partly a home automation hub, but to have full integration you need a home automation hub like Home Assistant or a more easy one to learn the Homey from Athom.

I myself have the Homey and use the Homey integration with the Remote control. Almost all devices are connected to the Homey and via this RC I can control them.
Some devices are controlled directly from the RC using IR set or learned from the existing RC’s.

With homey (or HA) you have support for devices via WiFi/LAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z-Wave, IR and RF (433MHz).

On thing, I sometimes miss it that the RC does not show status for non controllable devices like a temperature sensor or a door/window sensor (status only). Only if you can switch a device on/off, change color ot change temperature that is what you can do with the remote. Thus, it’s a RC, not a dashboard.

I can also do that with an app on my phone, but with the RC I am faster to reach the device I need, no screen unlocking, finding the app, starting the app and then browsing through the app cost way more time.

I have now a Remote2 and ordered the 3 with multiple dock. But again, to use it as a remote control (for my home automation system and some IR device).

Hi,
not only HA and Homey. with the Request integration (HTTP-Post and others) you can use more or less any home automation you like. I have IP Symcon and control light, plugs, fans and so on with my R2.

Hi,
I have the tahoma switch box that can control all somfy devices (shutters, blinds, windows…). I just added Home assistant (native) integration and I can control all of them from the remote (R2 and for sure R3)
