Beta 2.0 update - feedback

Hi. This thread isn’t really anything, but I wanted to just say…OMG!!! Thank you dev team SO much for the latest firmware update!!! This literally changes the remote ten fold. It’s night and day.

I’m talking about the new WiFi sleep implementation of course. FINALLY!! I can actually pick up the remote anytime and commands respond almost instantaneously! To be honest, the remote was almost unusable in its legacy state. This changed the game and made me very happy!!! Can you tell?? Ha ha ha.

Just a shout out is all. I love this remote now. Kudos dev team!!

Only issue is that sometimes the screen will turn on randomly for whatever reason. Not much, just sporadically. Not a big issue.

I will say, things to add that will make this ultimate remote…

-hard button input without having the screen turn on. Which is probably possible now.

-fast hold down presses. For instance, holding down volume buttons or shield TV arrow keys. Would be awesome if we could have faster input speeds in between holding short presses. I forget what the technical term is.

Anyways…I’m happy with this new update!

There is an issue logged for your last point: Send IR commands continously when a button is held down. · Issue #157 · unfoldedcircle/feature-and-bug-tracker · GitHub

Good deal. I thought so. Can’t wait for that. Thanks

I’m missing two important things in the update:

  • Beta release of new Web-Configurator 2.0
  • Voice support for Home Assistant Assist

The latter in particular would be more than brilliant.
Using the remote control to operate Home Assistant by voice control would be a killer feature for me.

Yeah, it’s been stated the new web configurator overhaul is coming soon. Would be nice to access on my mobile for sure. To be fair, I’m not doing much with my home assistant instance. I don’t really have a need for it. But it would be awesome to use the voice button for searches and stuff like that in certain apps. Or to change inputs or something.

Glad to hear there’s some serious improvements on that front… it is the single most annoying issue in day to day use.

Just wondering what’s up with all the betas… I read about 1.18, 1.19 and now 2.0 here on the forums. Meanwhile the stable release is still 1.17 and has been for months. Are stable releases no longer a thing?

How can I install this beta? I checked the beta update button but it still says ‘Your software is up to date’. I am on the public 1.7.14

Try rebooting the remote.

That was the issue!

Definitely! And yeah, I’m not sure. They have only been releasing beta firmware updates pretty much since beta updates became a thing. There hasn’t been an official release in a long time.

I’m very interested in upgrading to take advantage of this improvement. Those of you on the beta would there be any advice on upgrading to the beta or holding off?

If you need it try it. I read that You can go back with a factory reset to a release but I did not test. I must wait for the next beta because on 2.0 I cannot backup anymore. I think because my backups are with >1MB very large.

The wifi sleep implementation - is this a setting in te Beta or just a general improvement that requires no changes to made?

It’s part of Beta 2.0

I know its part of it, what I want to know is it a “Switch on/Switch off” feature or just an improvement across the board that is baked into 2.0?

It is a setting that can be switched on/off in the remote directly.

You need to be on version 2.0 FW. Once upgraded, you will see the option in the settings from the remote only. It’s not a setting in the web UI.

hi, where can i find the “beta update” button i must be looking in the wrong place.

In the web UI settings area. Scroll all the way down.

Thank you! I was looking for it on the remote itself and couldn’t find it.
