Apple TVs is unavailable error

My Remote 2 has stopped working with Apple TV. The device appears in grey on my home screen and if I try and select I simply get the error “Apple TV is unavailable”. I have updated both my Apple TV and Remote 2 to latest firmware and issue still persists. Turning off home network and remote makes no difference.

Does anyone know what may be causing the issue and how to resolve?

Have you tried to run the integration setup again?
With tvOS 18 there were reports that the MAC address the Apple TV is advertising through the control protocols has changed. The Mac address ist also used for the entity id on the remote and therefore the remote can’t find the device anymore.

Thank you, both for the suggestion and the additional background information. I had stopped working a while ago but had not taken the time to troubleshoot properly. I just removed and reinstalled integration and it is now working.

Which firmware do you use? 2.2x? if Yes:

Can you restart your remote and watch if it is unavailable again?

Are you referring to the remote firmware? I’m on 1.7.14 which it indicates is the latest version. Is 2.2x a beta version?

I’m able to reset the remote and still connect to Apple TV.

Yes 2.x are beta. I asked because I have a similar problem with another integration which is always unavailable after restart of remote. I thought it might be the same reason.

Airplay password must be 6 characters, but R2 only allows only 4?

Try to disable the password temporaly for the pairing process. The 2 PINs you need to enter are not related to the Airplay password.

That worked, thank you very much for the tip!
