I have a problem with ADB TV: I cannot open the Apple TV app, even though everything else works. What command is needed to launch the app within ADB TV? Can anyone help me?
In latest version of ADB it works like in Android TV. Add a widget, then input/source from ADB integrations and you should get a pop-up menu with all user installed apps the you choose Apple TV. The is also a nice select entity which has a pop-up menu where you can start most Apps.

Here is a screenshot for SmartTube. You can find the app ID by going to settings>apps and finding the app id which is typically 3 domains (2 periods) or 4 (3 periods). Just swap it out for the com.smarttube.beta part.
Edit: should be the below using the native UC integration, if using the HA python ADB server solution leave out RAW: but leave the rest (am start ***).

Which device are you using? For me Apple TV on my Android TV device still works with input/source and the select Apple TV from the list of the pop-up menu. If you do not get a pop-up try entering “Apple TV” without hyphen in source line.
Btw. For smart tube a simple APP:org.smarttube.stable is enough.

Apple might also be started with ACT:com.apple.atve.androidtv.appletv/.MainActivity

Unfortunately, since an update to my Sony TV, not all direct app shortcuts are working anymore—including Apple TV. The commands you mentioned don’t work; I can only access it via workarounds. Sony has evidently restricted direct access, though strangely enough, not for all apps.
Did you try ADB? Since a few versions ADB has a select entity which lists all user installed apps and can start then. There is also an options command which works like input/source of Android TV.

As previously mentioned, Sony has tightened restrictions on third-party app access. The commands specified for ADB are not executing on my TV.

None of the commands work; the command fails to execute. I have ADB access to my app list (including HDMI), but commands like ACT:com.apple.atve.androidtv.appletv/.MainActivity do not work.

Which command do you mean?
With ‘select option’ you can define a widget which will start an App which you can select in a pop up menu.
Add the entity App List to your activity and you can start an App out of a list.

Although I have a list of my TV apps,
I cannot access certain apps directly—for example,
tv.apple.com or com.apple.atve.sony.appletv (these do not work via a defined “icon” or “txt” key),
whereas others, such as
com.netflix.ninja
com.google.android.youtube.tv, work perfectly fine.
However, I solved the problem by creating a macro to launch Apple TV with a single button press, so I don’t have to scroll through the app list.
