After a nearly 3 year wait (KS’d August of 22) it’s finally here……and I can’t get past Dock setup

Setup on remote goes fine until I get to the dock portion. It finds the dock but repeatedly times out. The dock itself displays “setup WiFi, confirm with button” though clicking the dock (engaging the button associated with the front left foot) does nothing.

Have factory reset both items multiple time and hit a wall at the same spot.

Try making sure it’s on a 2.4Ghz wifi. Although the remote supports 5Ghz wifi, the docks only support 2.4Ghz

Unfortunately neither of the above suggestions worked. Still stuck at dock setup.

Seems like maybe a bad button on the dock. Everything moved along just fine until the “confirm with button press” step and when I do that nothing happens and I eventually time out.

Is this a charging dock you’re trying to set up? The reason I ask is because you mention “engaging the button associated with the front left foot” and on both my docks (which are charging docks) you press the button behind where the remote sits in the dock which is nothing to do with the front left foot.

Apologies if I’m missing something with the above, but the front left foot bit confused me.

Hi, I have just receieved my remote 3 and charging dock and had the same issue setting up the dock. I was trying to set it up on WiFi first, before moving other to ethernet when it gets deployed as my main remote setup.

I found that if you connect it via ethernet for the initial setup, the remote will find the dock and during the setup process you can enter WiFi SSID & credentials. The setup process then completed successfully. I removed the ethernet cable and rebooted the dock and it successfully connected to my WiFi (2.4ghz). Its a work around that shouldn’t be needed, but hopefully it will work for you also.

What happens if you press the button when you’re not in the connection process? It should toggle through some informations with every press.
If this doesn’t work as well use your fingernail to press it as the touch area is actually to small to recognize at least my fingertip.

I had the same issue. It is not really clear where the button is. I tried it with a paper clip. Not a good idea. The documentation for the initial setup is not good. the 2.4 GHz info? Not in the paperwork that came with the devices. Don’t get me wrong it is a fantastic remote. But UC seems to close to see the problems user would have when they try to setup up the first time.

The info brochure you got with the Dock shows you where the control button is located and also the network connectivity is 2,4GHz only. I’m not sure why you try it with a paperclip. The button is touch sensitive. It’s just too small for most fingers. You probably tried the reset button.

Had the same issue, the dimple on the top facia of the dock is the actual button. It needs a firm press and then the dock accepts the wifi settings.

What was confusing me was the moving finger on the dock display that is pointing the other way

I had the same issue as others and the solution of connecting to ethernet first worked for me

At the top of the dock behind the charging port there is a hollow circle. You need to press it hard. Not with a paperclip, but with your finger. You will feel a click.

At first I also didn’t know how to proceed. Had to watch a youtube video to understand I had to press pretty hard at the almost invisible button.

And can you cennect the dock now?

If am not not using IR for any devices, is there any purpose to the dock other than charging?

No, at least not at the moment but future updates will enable RS232/serial functionality for the Dock

And esphome.

Heya, new here but like many I initially struggled with this. Took a day of reading and trying different approaches outlined on the Unfolded Circle site, which only partially helped. What I eventually found is that Your Dock is set to 2.4Ghz WiFi, so you have no option there, but you need to change your Remote to the 5Ghz WiFi band in settings. Next follow the setup procedure as per instructions. It should connect instantly and have a rock solid connection. I re-initialised the Remote and Dock several times to make sure it wasn’t dumb luck. I confirmed it worked 100% everytime. My guess is that the initial Bluetooth handshake, which operates in the 2.4Ghz band, is causing interference with 2.4Ghz WiFi within the remote itself. One other thing to check, make sure mDNS is enabled on your Router. Hope this helps people.

I agree that is very confusing. The component layout sheet in the box is your friend here. :slightly_smiling_face:

I tried the same thing initially but found that I could not use the Dock to learn IR codes or connect to internet for firmware updates unless connected via ethernet. My final 100% working solution is as above.
