Activity Group doesn't do what I want

Hi,
I started configuring an activity group for the living room. I start only with two activities inside the group, “Watch TV via cable receiver” and “Streaming with Fire TV stick.”

I would like to have a similar behaviour like having no activity group at all, because then, if I push the switch off button, it asks me which activity to switch off. But then it really switches off all devices of this activity, even if I need i.e. the AVR for the other activity. I understand, that it behaves like this, but what I would like is, to be aseked what I want to switch off and that it only switches off the devices, that are not used in the still running activity.

I played around with the settings, but coulden’t come to my aim.
Can anybody tell me, how to set this up?

Thanks!

How do you switch between activities? You need to exit the activity ui with the x button on the top right and then start the next activity from the profile/main pages

I usually use the home button to get back to the main screen where I see the list with all my activities. I guess, this is the same. And my problem is not switching between them, but switching only one of them off.

You need an activity group if you have 2 activities TV+STB and TV+ATV and switch between these activities the TV will stay on during switching. Without an activity group TV will be switched off and the on again. This only works good if your device do not have a power toggle only.

Yes, this is clear to me. But what are the settings for the activity group? There are pull down menus inside activity groups. What do I have to choose there that when I’m pushing the power off button it asks me which activity I want to power off?

All activities in 1 room should be in the same activity group

It will not ask you if you have a running activity and if this is active and not on the home screen of R2/R3. I get only asked if an activity had an error.

Ralf

Maybe, my initial question was not clear enough. If course, it asks me, which activity I want to stop, as long as I have not defined an activity group.

So, what I want to do is:
I push the power off button in the activities overview. (Not inside one activity!)
And then, I want to have a popup to choose the activity, want to stop.
After my choice, I want the R3 only to switch off the devices, that are not needed anymore for the remaining (running) activity.

You have a problem. You do not want to use activity goups that means you can start several activities in the same but also different rooms. How should the poor remote know which are used and which not because in theory your 2 activities can be in 2 different rooms.

What is the use case of different activities in the same room running at the same time? Can you give an example?

For some case you can create actvities which are an addition but not in the group or perhaps direct use the entity.

Ralf

No, no. Once again. I want to have an activity group, but up to now, it does not do what I want.

And it should do what I described above!

The underlying idea of an activity group (at least that is my understanding) is that only one activity is active. I.e. when you switch from “Watch TV” to “Watch AppleTV” it will close the first activity and open the new one. That is why you do not see a pop-up menu asking which activity to close.
In case you have not seen the support page on activity groups yet: https://support.unfoldedcircle.com/hc/en-us/articles/13215168236188-Activity-groups

Ok, if it will not ask me, I’m fine with it as well. Then again the question, what do I have to set in the pull down menus of the activity group?

The first drop down determines if delays after a power-on command in an on-sequence should be removed. The second drop down determines which entities will be switched off. The support article describes the options in more detail.
I have my actitity group set to „Never“ and „used in off sequence“.

A question. Did you map the power button in the activity to anything? Then you would overrule the activity end of the activity. I made the same mistake last year. In activities leave power button untouched.

Ralf

No, I didn’t. Thanks for the hint.

This behaviour is not normal and I switch often activities. I am not sure perhaps you press power off to long. I am not sure what happens then.

Did you try to restart the remote while all devices are switched off only to make sure that devices and remote are in sync.

Do you have a device with only power toggle?
