What is this setting used for once the R3 is connected to home WiFi? Should it be set on or off and what difference does the scanning interval make?
I think(!), when you have set up multiple WiFi connections in the remote, it’s the time the remote checks which configured networks are available, which one has the highest signal strength and determinates if it should connect to another network.
theodicean posted on Discord that “It is a workaround for an issue where the remote thinks it’s connected to WiFi but no packets are sent or received. Triggering a scan fixes it. Mainly an issue with UniFi equipment. I put mine to scan every ten seconds”. I have a Unifi network and have seen that issue when i turned this off so I guess its a workaround for now. Have asked when a permanent fix might be available.
This is not only with TP link equipment (access points). If the remote goes to sleep and wakes up after a while there is no way I get it working again without wifi scanning enabled, the remote shows connected to wifi, all integrations connected but remote is unresponsive.
Remote3 has still serious wifi issues in AP based wifi networks that need to be solved. Fixes like active scanning and keeping wifi alive are only patchwork that drain the battery reducing usability further.
Stop the patchwork, solve the underlying issue.
