Hi. So I finally received my new remote 3 and went through the first part of setting everything up last nigh, and just wanted to provide some helpful tips to anybody that might be confused. Apologies if this has been covered already.
Anyhow, when I went through the initial setup, the remote would not connect to my Wi-Fi. I just clicked “setup later". Then went into the settings on the remote and was able to add my Wi-Fi just fine. Once connected, you will be presented with an empty web configurator essentially. Well, I’ve been using remote 2 for over 2 years now and have a ton of customizations. So, I made a backup from my R2 web configurator (on FW 2.70) and did a restore on my R3 from that file. This worked perfectly. Everything was there. But it was basically a clone of my R2. However, my R3 was still on like FW 2.67 something. I updated my R3 to 2.70 and then did another restore. Perfect. Had to change the host name and then add the new dock 3 models. Took some trial and error to get my dock 3 connected, but all is working now. The only thing that didn’t pan over was one of my home screens. I have three currently. Activities, Devices, and Home Assistant. The Activities page didn’t come over. It was easy to add it though. Create a new one and just add my activities. All my custom pictures and icons were restored. Very simple.
After doing all this, everything works just it does from my R2. I’ll have to remap some buttons, but that is expected. All of my custom and learned IR codes are there. Everything really it seems.
I’ll do some more tinkering later, but wanted to at least provide some background of how a R2 user can easily migrate to R3. Remember, having both remotes, is like having two brains. Two web configurator.
That’s all for now. Thanks!
