It’s time for an update. I received a return shipping label last week, along with software 2.9.5. Somehow this most recent software version has resolved the ghost touch, screen freezing and artifacts issues I was having. It’s only been a few days, but it’s been the best few days of owning the remote. Fingers crossed it stays this way and that the next software update doesn’t break whatever is working now.
Harmony integration? Where did you get it?
Thanks
It is very old and only available as a docker image. Look here:
https://youtu.be/Fne3kIkJm7w and
I used it 1.5 years ago and it created activities and entities for all my hubs from harmony activities and devices.

Hi,
It has been a HUGE pain to set-up Remote 3 to work with everything I have, and the closest possible to my extremely reliable Harmony Elite. And even having a Synology NAS, it would mean another equipment on the already troubled configuration. Also, the integration not being updated for 2 years, is not a very good sign.
I lost the count of the hours I spent with it (to much!) and I now, besides some issues I’ve been in facing with the integration for Naim (UPnP source to access my music collection stored on my NAS doesn’t work), among other things, I only need to change some visual aspects on my Activities, I’m not open to taking the risk off messing with what is already done (even having a backup).
Honestly, it was my first kickstarter experience, and quite annoying to receive the remote so long after the supposed date it would start shipping (I understand that there are many factors involved but you can’t “promise” one thing that you don’t know/can’t control) being 1,5 years without money nor remote, for then to see that:
- Ergonomics aren’t good at all;
- The buttons, specially volume/channel leave a bit to desire too;
- Battery life is also not very good (not comparing with Harmony Elite);
- We have to rely on the good will (and time!) from users to have Integrations;
- Their “Simplified configuration” is completely the opposite (I cannot even understand why they wrote that on Kickstarter);
- It just isn’t so reliable as Harmony Elite (f… you Logitech);
- It would be great (don’t know if it’s possible with that integrarion) if Remote 3 could know that an Activity started with the Harmony was already running because, if it has not been easy for me, my wife doesn’t even want to try it after the time he saw me spending with it.
Anyway it’s not all negative. The Remote 3 is beautiful overall (ok, another row of physical buttons would have been great), the display (comparing to Harmony Elite) is awesome, and it’s a way more powerful Remote and not cloud based.
All of this makes me having huge mixed feelings about it.
I was really excited and confident about it but maybe I should have controlled (a lot) my expectations.
(And no, I don’t have Home Assistant, nor I think it would be justified on my case).
Thanks!
Almost all Kickstarter rewards get delayed. That’s more of a problem with the overly optimistic startup scene than with UC. There are also a few articles on the subject.
Unfortunately, UC has marketed the product a bit misleadingly, as it’s clearly intended more for enthusiasts looking for a more affordable and customizable alternative to custom installer solutions like Control4, RTI, or Crestron.
The forum and Discord should definitely help you with any issues you encounter. All developers are active on Discord, and if you have a problem with a specific community integration, you should ask there.
The advantage of community integrations, however, is that they can continue to exist even if either UC or the community developers stop working on them. Virtually everything is open source and can be forked by others. To my knowledge, this is a feature that no other comparable product offers.
Yes, I know, that’s why I think they should never said that the shipment would start at December 2024 but that they expected to.
I didn’t backed up the Kickstarter for Remote 2 but for what I read, the same thing happened. So, they should already know that they can’t commit with a date like they did.
I don’t use, nor like at all, Discord. No only the UI/UX but their privacy policy (the last time I read it), was ridiculous.
They have their own community here; why “forcing” users to go to Discord to see what is happening, or to get help?..
Regarding setting it up , I’ve been using ChatGPT 5.5 (
) to be able to make my devices and Activities to work and I’m not confident that it didn’t turn a configuration that is not already to straightforward, into a bigger confusion (but it sure helped a lot on several occasions).
Even with ChatGPT (paid version), it still doesn’t seem so reliable like the old Harmony Elite.
As for the issues I’ve been facing with 2 or 3 custom integrations, i open issues tickets. Till now, I receive a reply (not already an answer/solution) from one of the developers. I’m waiting for others to get back.
Thanks
Concerning Kickstarter it must be clear that there is a risk. After Sofabaton UC was only the second project I backed which was and still is really usable. I also backed a product I never got.
What integrations troubles you and how did you report the problem? Most authors of community integrations react extremely fast sometimes in minutes or hours on discord.
I can understand that you might have problems with discord but I hope you also have problems with other so called social media platforms. I am rather old and do not understand the idea of social media.
I only use public boards/platforms for my hobbies like home automation and remotes.
Btw. I do not think they force to discord. I think it was more a decision of users of the DIY and R2.
Ralf
Hi again,
I used quotations marks ("forcing") ![]()
As for social media, I’m younger than you (46) but I’m so tired of that… I go there rarely and only to see a specific thing.
Regarding the integrations issues I’m facing, is not being able to change the source of my Naim Uniti Nova to UPnP (for accessing my music library stored on my NAS) and there are other sources that are not working.
The other is regarding the integration Samsung TV. Jack Powell already answered but I didn’t had yet the time to try it out.
Cheers
For naim try putting @M.a.S.e in your post here. Our Texan guy reads here also but not so often. Other way might be the issue path of git OR discord where you have a thread for naim.
I had already contact with him and if he is awake he answers also really fast.
Ralf
Only now I noticed that I didn’t answered to one of your questions. I created a bug “report” on the Github of each integration.
Wow, thanks for your help!
Hey, i read it and saw your github post. just know about me specifically most of my integrations i created i do not own any of the devices so to be able to solve i will need the remote integration logs to investigate, also note: i am out oversees this week which is why i have not responded yet. ill be back next week and will be happy to look into your issue. if you can add screenshots or logs to the bug report that will be helpful, i dont own a naim device and i dont have a way to replicate i this this blindly and had users send me feedback and logs until it worked.
Morning dude. This sounds like the issue we were working back in March though our DM channel in Discord. You ran out of time to follow up on the last set of logs I sent you due to work issues. For me all sources including UPNP were correctly displayed but whenever I selected one of them it didnt change the source and just took me back to the ‘whats playing’ page within the media player.
I’m oversees, and will get back to this when I’m back in a few days. I need more info and logs.
As I said before dude no rush. I DM’d you the log a while back. Have a great break.
naim was updated. more info in the naim channel since its unrelated to this thread.
